Celina Is lovely - elegant and timeless. Selena spelling slightly more usual I guess.

Am not a fan of Maya pronounced Mya, I think it sounds harsh, also you will constantly be correcting people, and there are a lot of them.

Rhea... yep diarrhoea for me too. Other than that it makes me think of a downtrodden but wisecracking barmaid from the 70s, so depend if that’s what you’re going for....

Celina is LOVELY!! I'm a bit down on Maya/Mya/Maia names because there are just so many at the moment and while Rhea is a nice name, it reminds me of a large bird (and now, thanks a lot PP, an upset stomach 😠)

I like Selina best. Maya is nice too.

Luckyelephant1 · 11/02/2021 23:30

I love Rhea/Riya, I wouldn't associate it with a bird or poo personally, it's quite a well known Indian name.

Maya has been my favourite name since I was a teen but then it became too popular.

Selina is OK but I much prefer Serena!

PetraRabbit · 11/02/2021 23:48

Celina- beautiful especially with this spelling.

Rhea is ok, but there are lots of Leah/Lea/Lia names around and a huge amount of Mia/Mya/Mya/Mila names. Maya is so cross-cultural that like Sophia is it used by everyone looking for a cross-cultural name.

Newyork88 · 12/02/2021 10:05

Thanks for all the help! Celina seems to be the winner on here! Really keen to go for the Celina spelling as I’m not sure that the others (Selina/ Selena) look as nice. Selina also reminds me of Semolina. Is there a cultural difference between the three spellings?

Maya is lovely

Yousexybugger · 12/02/2021 10:18

Celina!

Rhea is interesting but I went to school with one and can vouch that all she heard for 5 years was 'diarrhoea' and 'rear end', then 'gonorrhoea' when sophisticated, worldly wise year 9 humour took over. It really wore her down and set her out as a target for bullies as she had a few personal issues so wasn't that well equipped to deflect it. A thicker skinned child at a nicer school might be able to laugh it off (I know a very confident Ria) but it was really unpleasant for her. Nice name but I wouldn't personally use it.

Selena is the most well known because it is well used in some Latin American/Hispanic countries - there have been a few famous Selena's. It's also the version closest to the original Greek Selene.

Selina is the version that was traditionally used in English speaking countries (particularly the US and UK), but this has now been superseded by Selena.

Celina is the rarest spelling - an elaboration of the French version Celine. Celina is lovely but be aware it may easily get confused with the similar Celia when written.

Newyork88 · 12/02/2021 15:19

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Thank you! I like Celina the most and I like that it’s a bit unusual!

I really like Celina or Selena.
So pretty!

Maya or Selena! I also like the previously suggested Serena 🥰 Maya’s always pronounced “My-uh” where I’m from, so I wouldn’t have thought about the pronunciation discrepancy. I also don’t find Maya harsh whatsoever.

Spaghettiamaretti · 14/02/2021 18:21

Celina! I’m biased because we’ve named our baby girl Celina (same spelling), although there’s another 6 weeks til she’s born.
We’ve already nn’d her CeCe which I love too!

Fromthegekko · 15/02/2021 04:10

Celina is beautiful. I agree there are a lot of Mia/Maya’s around For some reason I can’t think of anything other than rear (as in bum) when I think of Rhea.

ellenpartridge · 15/02/2021 08:34

Maya

Destinyknown · 15/02/2021 08:44

Rhea is ugly sorry like gonorreah
Celina is gorgeous 😍 I probably prefer Selina though
Maya is ok but there will be mispronunciation.

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/02/2021 09:06

Wow, some posters are really rude about Rhea - it’s like going into a primary school playground. It’s a classical name.
There are other spellings that sound the same as Rhea. Ria is the one I’ve seen the most, but I have seen Rea and Rhia too.

Newyork88 · 15/02/2021 09:13

Thank you everyone for the great help! Keeping Celina on the list and crossing off Maya and Rhea.

Destinyknown · 15/02/2021 09:22

@Mouthfulofquiz but OP asked for ppls opinion and they have given it 🤷 you can take the higher ground but ppl are only replying to a post.
I don't think it's a classic name.

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/02/2021 09:29

It’s from Greek Mythology - can’t get any more classical than that!

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2021 09:29

Maya

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2021 09:30

Or Selena spelling if that name

Fromthegekko · 15/02/2021 11:15

mouthfulofquiz. I take your point but don’t think posters are trying to be deliberately rude. OP asked for thoughts on her list and though it is rather puerile mine was that my mind goes straight to ‘rear’ as in backside when I think of the name Rhea.
