What are your thoughts on the name Pertunia please.

Also love Perdita. Any opinions?

Don't know why I added the r (lack of sleep)

Petunia is lovely.
PeRtunia looks like you misspelled.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/02/2021 10:42

Petunia, like the flower?
It's quite old fashioned and it reminds me of Harry Potter's awful aunt.
Perdita is a Dalmatian.
How about Poppy? Penny?

FelicityPike · 05/02/2021 10:42

Ahh cross posted 👍🏻

HappyFlamingo · 05/02/2021 10:42

I think it would be Petunia not Pertunia, wouldn't it? Like the flower?

My first thought is Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter books - not great!

Twinkie01 · 05/02/2021 10:42

Petunia sorry is dreadful. NN Pet 😬

Perdita on the other hand is v v cool.

DisposableGoon · 05/02/2021 10:43

I like Perdita, although it's a little sad (meaning 'lost') but less so Petunia. Possibly due to safety adverts in the 70's about swimming out of your depth!

HurricaneBitch · 05/02/2021 10:45

Petunia Clark. I prefer Petunia to Perdita, but neither floats my boat.

AlwaysLatte · 05/02/2021 10:48

Not too keen - if brings to mind an older lady with pursed lips.
Also I've only ever seen it spelt without the R so everyone would be spelling it wrongly unless you went for the more conventional spelling. Perdita is ok - Purdy for short?

Powerplant · 05/02/2021 10:48

It reminds me of an advert years ago about a lady called Petunia and water safety! I used to have a friend called Petronella which is a lovely name.

KevinSausage · 05/02/2021 10:49

Old aunt Petunia is what comes to mind, and Perdita will always be a Dalmatian I'm afraid

AlwaysLatte · 05/02/2021 10:49

Sorry just seen that the r was unintentional!

Onesipmore · 05/02/2021 10:50

Perdita better than Petunia. NN Perdy

midnightstar66 · 05/02/2021 10:51

I don't like it at all, petunia is the awful aunt in Harry Potter who won't be going anywhere in children's literature and movies for a long time. Also makes me think of petulant. Pereira is nice but definitely a Dalmatian. How about Persephone or prudence?

midnightstar66 · 05/02/2021 10:53

Not sure where pereira came from, obviously meant Perdita (autocorrect clearly not a fan)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/02/2021 11:05

Petunia sounds like someones elderly, fussy Aunt to me, sorry (and I've not seen/read Harry Potter as per PP!).

Perdita is gorgeous, classy sounding, with a lovely poetic feeling to me (with very cool nn's in Dita or Perdy). But I probably feel that way because it reminds me of the heroine of Shakespeare's "a Winter's Tale", where as other people will say it reminds them of the dog in "a 101 Dalmations" instead so they'll feel differently!

MrsWhistledown · 05/02/2021 11:08

I don't mind Petunia but yes it does remind me of aunt petunia from Harry Potter Smile

I'm not keen on perdita.

I know you didnt ask for suggestions but Primrose is the same kind of style of name to me so you might like that too.

cobblers123 · 05/02/2021 11:11

One of my cats was called Perdita, we usually just called her Purdy though.

ApolloandDaphne · 05/02/2021 12:09

@HurricaneBitch

Petunia Clark. I prefer Petunia to Perdita, but neither floats my boat.
It was Petula Clark not Petunia.
VenusClapTrap · 05/02/2021 14:50

I love Perdita.

Prefer Prunella to Petunia, because then you can shorten it to Pru or Nell, both of which are gorgeous. With Petunia it’s, um, Petty or Tuna ConfusedGrin

NinaMimi · 05/02/2021 19:18

I think they sound like characters in books and plays rather than names of real people.

If you’re a Spanish or Italian speaker “perdita” just sounds like you’re saying the word lost, which isn’t a good meaning for a child.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/02/2021 19:20

@HurricaneBitch

Petunia Clark. I prefer Petunia to Perdita, but neither floats my boat.
It's Petula Clark isn't it it? Not Petunia.
Scarby9 · 05/02/2021 19:22

@Powerplant and @DisposableGoon

Here you are. So memorable to those who remember just three TV channels...
Pinkblueberry · 05/02/2021 19:26

Harry Potter’s horrible aunt.
Perdita is a dog off 101 dalmations.

Powerplant · 05/02/2021 19:54

@Scarby9 thanks for that - brilliant😊😊
