Nicknames are often only tenuously linked to the name. Isla shortening to Issy seems strange but to Is not so much, so it kind of makes sense.

Daisy. Best by far! Then Isla, then Grace. I don't like the others.

Isla. And definitely wouldn’t worry about the Izzy comment, that’s the only time I’ve ever heard of that and doesn’t seem a natural nickname to me

You don't really have much control over nn.

If you name your DC something quite unusual and hard to shorten, kids will find a way to make a related nn.
it used to be adding a z to the first syllable in my day, so you'd get nn like Kaz, Caz, Mollz, Linz etc.

I swear every other little girl is called Isla around here. That's probably why that one family changed it to Izzy!

Isla is lovely.
People say it's so popular, but I don't know any. Never taught one either.
Though I do know an Ayla, which is lovely, too.
I like Ava. Again, apparently so popular but I only know 1.
