What do you think of this and what other names might we like (boy or girl)?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love it. Ben is great as a shortening too.

Findingapath · 31/01/2021 15:39

I love this name so much, it would be top of my list for a boy but it was my childhood dogs name and not sure my family would like me to reuse it. My other favourite for a boy is Jesse...but my husband has ruled that out because it was his cats name as a kid. Must remember to not use all the best names up on pets in the future.

This is a lovely name. I'm a teacher and I've taught such lovely boys with this name that I have really positive associations with it.

partyatthepalace · 31/01/2021 16:51

It’s nice. You have to like Ben though! I have literally never known a Benjamin or a Benedict who wasn’t known as Ben.

Others classics - Nathaniel nn Nat/Nate, Gabriel nn Gabe, Thomas nn Tom, Daniel nn Dan, Issac, Elijah, Joshua, Miles, Arthur, Alfred, Lawrence...

Firebird83 · 31/01/2021 16:52

It’s lovely

You might also like Joseph, Samuel, Matthew, James, Alexander, Daniel, Joshua, Nicholas, Oliver, Thomas, Edward, William, Christopher, Dominic, Jacob, Luke or Nathaniel?

Lovely name. It’s my friends wee boys name - he is known as Ben.

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 19:03

I know two little boys called Benjamin. I really like it Smile.

Siblings are Imogen, Madeleine and Edward.

I must admit I prefer Benedict (I find Benjamin slightly cute sounding - I think it's the "jam" part for some reason).

But Benjamin is pretty classic - PP have mentioned most of the obviously similar classic/biblical names apart from Michael, Mark, John, Henry, Robert, Louis, Jeremy, Joel, Charles, George, Phillip, Peter.

daisypond · 31/01/2021 20:16

I like it but I do prefer Benedict.

Arrierttyclock · 31/01/2021 20:51

sorry but I just think it's one of the most boring name in the world

TempsPerdu · 31/01/2021 21:25

It’s nice - a friendly, easy-going name. All the Bens (and he will be Ben) I’ve ever taught have been lovely. But it’s just too mainstream and ‘safe’ for my personal taste, so I wouldn’t choose it myself.

danascully96 · 31/01/2021 22:56

Since I’m American (living in UK), Benedict will always be followed by Arnold 🤪. And since I’m unaccustomed to Benedict as a given name, it conjures up a horsey and ridiculously posh boy to me.

Now, Benjamin is beautiful. It’s so cuddly and sweet, while also strong and classic enough to suit a grown man. Benji and Ben are nice nns too.

My potential boys names include Benjamin, as well as Daniel (Danny), James (Jamie), Jack, and Alexander (Alex). For non-classic, I like Leo!

LittleTiger007 · 31/01/2021 23:01

I love the name Benjamin! It’s a beautiful name, it would be on our list except we have a nephew called Benjamin known as Benjie

Other names you may like: Joseph, Nathaniel (Nate), Malachi, Gabriel, Jonah, Barnaby, Seth, George,
Girls: Phoebe, Clementine, Amelie, Shiloh, Bethany,

Benjamin is a great name. Yes, it's popular and not very "original" but that's true of my kids names too. Wink Grin Some names are popular for a reason; they stand the test of time and Benjamin falls into this category.

Benji or Benny is cute for a toddler and Ben is great too.

You've had lots of other boy great suggestions - I don't think Jonathan was suggested though? Girl suggestions:

Catherine
Matilda
Eleanor
Felicity
Elizabeth
Amelia
Victoria
Imogen
Lydia
Sophia
