Girl name - some help please!

Hi! I am not British and my husband not British - very mixed heritage so complicated to explain and quite irrelevant, but I need to mention this because I might not like classic British names. However, I would like to use a name that doesn't sound weird in English, as we live here and I wouldn't want my baby girl to be teased at school.

So, after eliminating many names (!!!!) for various reasons, we are quite keen on Leela.

Could you please tell me how this sounds in English and what a girl with this name would be like in people's mind, what would be the perception? I am quite curious to see what people think and of course you can be creative if you like, I would love to hear your thoughts! :-) :-)

Thank you!!!

Leela is fine and not that different to the many girls with the Laura/Lara/Lyra type names. I think the most important thing is that YOU like it and you've double checked it doesn't have some weird/offensive other meaning here- which it doesn't! Go for it!

I like both Lilibet and Leela! :)

I don't like Lilibet at all - it is too much of a nickname and it just sounds a bit... Childish? Frilly? Like it might sound okay on a baby but an adult might be embarrassed to introduce themselves as Lillibet.

Leela is okay. It seems a bit... Nothing-y? Like there isn't much to it.

How about:
Elizabeth nickname Lilibet? Then you can also usr nicknames Lizzie, Eliza, Betsy, Betty, Bess... Whatever you want!
Lucy
Lillian
Louisa
Elpeth

It’s ok but not particularly interesting.
No issues with spelling or pronunciation which is good
IF you wanted to sound more English then suggest Leila (ay sound) or Lila/Lyla (with the eye sound instead of ee)

Leela sounds absolutely fine to me, Op. There is a mild Sci-fi connotation but it's not hugely obvious - it's not Hermoine Granger level or anything.

I think Leela is a gorgeous name! I also like Leyla and Lara which are quite similar. I don’t think it’s teaseable and I wouldn’t worry about it not being typically British at all. It’s nice to have a more uncommon name!
