What do you think? I know mumsnetters are always brutally honest which is needed.

Big bro is Louis x

I'll go against the grain and say I love the nn Fox and I don't see why it couldn't come from Felix (after all the F and the X are clearly there, and stranger/less obvious nn's have evolved from names).

But I would caution against using the name Felix unless you love it as much as you do the nn, after all as soon as he's old enough to talk he could decide he doesn't like Fox and insist on calling himself by his full name.

Btw the way my favourite name to match/fit Louis is Henry or Phillip, but I think Felix works fine.

I think Falcon is a good name with an animal kingdom association.

Felix and Fox have a different feel because Felix carries a very strong emphasis on the first syllable - you can't really say it with a light, understated sound, and I don't think people will. It might be 'Feeeelix.'
Fox, on the other hand, can trip from the tongue and be natural and quick like Finn,or, indeed, Louis.

Whatsyourflava · 30/01/2021 23:05

I think Felix nn Fox works well
I think people tend to me more conservative in their views on Mumsnet. I've seen some horrified reactions ("no one would name a child that"), to names like Sonny etc, that are already in the top 100 and rising!

minipie · 30/01/2021 23:06

Felix or Fox fine
Felix nn Fox is a bit contrived.

emsyj37 · 30/01/2021 23:11

Why wouldn't you just call him Fox? Confused
DS's best friend is called Fox. I think it's a sweet name.

CyberNan · 30/01/2021 23:13

isnt felix a brand of cat food?

its not your job to give him a nickname... thats what mates do.

SimplyRadishing · 30/01/2021 23:18

No and no.
Keep looking
Sorry 🤷‍♀️

daisypond · 30/01/2021 23:40

Felix is fine. Fox is OK as a middle name . I know two. Felix is so cat, though (Latin felis and Felix the cat food) so the jump to a fox is startling.

ColdCottage · 31/01/2021 00:19

You could just use Fox. I know a 6 year old Fox. Full name not nn.

ZenNudist · 31/01/2021 00:23

Felix is very feline but its an ok boys name. Fox as a name is cool in an I love David Duchovny way.

Fox isn't a nn for Felix.

If you like silly names I give you: Maverick.

WellityWellityWellity · 31/01/2021 08:52

Felix is lovely! Fox is not.

I do know of a little boy names Fox. His mum was always a massive dick though (school bully). But that might not be relevant! It is a name is what I'm trying to say. I just think it's horrible.

hiptobeasquare · 31/01/2021 09:15

I think nicknames just arise as the child grows. We have an Anne and she gets Annie, Anne Boleyn, Bossy B, Daftie etc.
I like Felix. I would probably want to say Felix Felicis.

Volcanoexplorer · 31/01/2021 09:20

It’s not for me sorry, makes me think of cat food and I’m not sure how the nickname fox comes from felix.

TheVolturi · 31/01/2021 09:40

Call him Mulder then his nickname can quite rightly be Fox.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/01/2021 09:42

Yes! I really like it.

Drinkarsefeck · 31/01/2021 09:53

I associate Felix with Felix the cat cartoons and cat food, and Fox I can see getting "For Fox's sake" thrown at him, so both a no from me.

FinalSongbird · 31/01/2021 10:04

Why do you need a nickname?
Everyone needs a nickname!

But you can't plan for them, they should just develop naturally over time.

So if we had a Felix, he could be Fefe, which would then probably develop into Fefe Trixibelle and end up as Trixy. Or Lix could become Lolly Licks and end up as LouLou. Both of my children are called by their nicknames at home, we rarely use their actual names. (But outside of the home we wouldn't use their nicknames)

RuthW · 31/01/2021 10:33

Lovely

TheOtherBoelynGirl · 31/01/2021 10:51

I think it's mad to think you can think up a nickname. They just arise naturally in my experience. We have a James and his nickname is Jimmy (but would never have thought of calling him that before he was here) and a Robert whose nickname is Rara because his brother couldn't say his name.

pooopypants · 31/01/2021 11:10

Why are people SO insistent on nicknames? I don't understand it.

IMO nicknames come organically, they're not created when naming your child.

My MIL is called something random because my youngest couldn't say her name, and it stuck. I would never have dreamed of calling her this before DC were born (it isn't rude, just random). Same principle.

That was the same with the Queen, I read somewhere recently. Prince William or Harry couldn't say Granny so she was called Gary.

MercyBodle · 31/01/2021 12:22

I really like Felix with nn Fox and think it works perfectly well.

Don't be silly.
