What do you think of Erin?

Any middle name suggestions would be very helpful too please. Nothing with an 'r' in though as our surname is very 'r' heavy.

Thank you for all the responses good and bad, it's definitely top of our list. After a good think DH and I really like Erin Olivia (thank you @Flowerythoughts for that link) so I think that's the contender for now.

DD is due in 7 weeks so it's good to have something in mind!

@daisypond

Only if you have Irish links. Absolutely not otherwise. It’s fine as a name.
Why not?!

Erin is more common in the US than Ireland. It's taken from Eire - it was never or rarely traditionally used as a girl's name in Ireland. It's a modern name.

I think it's fine OP, though not very distinguished.

Pimlicojo · 30/01/2021 19:23

I know two Erins - both short for Catherine. Lovely name.

WellityWellityWellity · 30/01/2021 19:28

Erin Olivia is lovely!

Spacecudet · 30/01/2021 19:31

Erin Olivia is a lovely name. If I'd had a DD instead of 3 DS, they would have been Olivia. Good choice.

YoniAndGuy · 30/01/2021 19:33

I know absolutely loads in the 10-18 age bracket.

It's ok. Very boring.

Ijustlikedthename · 01/02/2021 20:09

Lovely name

Glitterbubbles · 01/02/2021 20:10

It's beautiful! We love short names and it's on our list. Not too girly girly but still pretty!

finallychangedmyusername · 01/02/2021 21:02

Erin is a good name, I like it. For me, Erin fits with Nina, Zoe, Tess as a no-fuss short but feminine girls name.

Erin Olivia, as previously mentioned, works well. Other suggestions:

Erin Matilda
Erin Claudia
Erin Tabitha
Erin Juliet
Erin Susannah
Erin Hermione

I really like Erin Matilda.

Shesaysso · 01/02/2021 21:09

I like it - I only know a couple but both lovely

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 01/02/2021 21:09

The only Erin I know of is Erin Murphy who played Tabitha Stephens in the tv series Bewitched and I think it's a beautiful name.

CharlieBoo · 01/02/2021 22:01

Not a fan of Erin, but really like Niamh if that helps lol

ButtonMoonPie · 01/02/2021 22:04

I love it, feminine without being too cutesy

Conniethesensible · 01/02/2021 22:09

It’s a lovely name!

Yes, exactly my point. It’s not an Irish name but is used by those who have Irish links. If you were Irish in Ireland you wouldn’t use it. If you have absolutely no links /distant connection to Ireland it’s heading towards cultural appropriation.

Chunkymenrock · 01/02/2021 22:14

I like it. Amber or Holly as a middle name?

Sausagedog1 · 01/02/2021 23:37

I don't like Erin but I love Aeryn. I prefer the longer, softer pronunciation. Erin is too short and pointy.

SeanChailleach · 02/02/2021 07:55

@daisypond the name Erin was 39 in the Irish girls name chart for 2019. It's been popular within Ireland since the mid-seventies.
"Éire" had fallen out of common use when people first gave their daughters the name "Erin".
The use of the countryname reflects the forced nature of the migration and the hope of returning home some day. However, there are now many notable Erins who people might wish to name their daughters after, and why not indeed?

cptartapp · 02/02/2021 12:40

Love it.
Erin Catherine
Erin Louisa

SaltyTootsieToes · 12/02/2021 16:45

I’m really chuckling here because of @SionnachRua @emmathedilemma comments

The only Erin I know is both a world class bitch and an American who thinks she has an Irish connection because one of her great great grandparents came from Ireland.

PralineFowler · 12/02/2021 16:48

It’s usually popular on MN, but I don’t like it and also equate it with Americans wanting to sound Irish without choosing an actual Irish name. See also Shannon, Caitlyn.

TwilightSkies · 12/02/2021 16:50

It’s a lovely name.
Cultural appropriation 😂 which culture would that be?
