Tristram

I know the meaning isn't all that great of the name, meaning sadness or noise but who actually ever tells people the meaning of their name every day. Still love Tristan but considering the more Artherian note. Thanks.

He will spend his life correcting people that it isn't Tristan. The one Tristram I know changed his name to Tristan as an adult because it was so annoying. It's also not a very pleasant sounding name, to me anyway.

Shandy. Horrible novel. Very dull.

LochJessMonster · 30/01/2021 10:47

^ what they said.
Might as well be Tristan, sounds and looks nicer too.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 30/01/2021 10:49

No way would I pick Tristran- sorry! Just give them an easier life and pick Tristan.

HolyMusicalBman · 30/01/2021 10:49

I do prefer Tristan and think that'll be his name but thanks for the input so far.

How about Trismegistus?

partyatthepalace · 30/01/2021 20:17

I like both.

And as Tristan is getting popular I suspect people will start to use Tristram too, so it probably won't be so unusual.

@notafanoftheman

How about Trismegistus?
Ha! Love it.

I'd stick with Tristan OP, most people will mistake it for that anyway as pp's note (plus Tristram still has quite upper class vibes thanks to Shandy as mentioned by @notafanoftheman)

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2021 01:14

I much prefer Tristan.

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/01/2021 19:00

Both dh and I loved Tristram but every single person we mentioned it too hated it. We had girls anyway but still.

I've only ever met one Tristram, he was my friends little brother in junior school. He'd be mid 20s now

bridgetreilly · 31/01/2021 20:15

I like Tristram a bit better than Tristan, I think.

LittleTiger007 · 31/01/2021 23:07

My parents considered this for me if I’d been a boy. So relieved I was a girl and that they changed their mind before my brother came along. Maybe where you live it will work, but where we lived we would have been bullied for sounding snooty.

lljkk · 31/01/2021 23:10

I can't say Tristram, find it a tongue-twister.

Sheleg · 01/02/2021 00:09

Tristan and Tristram are both hideous. Reminds me of "triste" - French for sad.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 01/02/2021 14:14

Haaate Tristram. Its so awkward to say. That second 'r' just shouldn't be there. Tristan is fine.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 01/02/2021 14:15

Actually, I don't like Tristan much. But I dislike it less than Tristram which just doesn't sound at all right.

ILoveShula · 01/02/2021 19:49

Tristram Hunt. What's not to like?

Orphlids · 01/02/2021 21:24

I quite like Tristram, but I find it quite difficult to say. I prefer Tristan, too.

KirstenBlest · 02/02/2021 09:03

Try splitting it into Triss Drum - easy to say.

DinosaurDiana · 02/02/2021 09:04

I prefer Tristram

notalwaysalondoner · 02/02/2021 12:02

It's quite a mouthful, the two 'Tr' sounds. I prefer Tristan.

jaundicedoutlook · 02/02/2021 22:15

Always makes me think of a vicar’s (slightly drippy) younger son, for some reason...
