Name dilemma

Hayes178 · 28/01/2021 16:52

Me and DH are thinking about baby names, and his last name is Rudham. We both love the first name Robin for a boy but I'm not sure about whether 'robin Rudham' is too twee? The flow of it reminds me of rocking robin a lot Blush

My DH and I are in a similar dilemma, also liking R first names with an R surname. I personally find the alliteration too much, but DH adores it. I think it’s even more pronounced in your example because both first and surname are two syllables. I’d be searching for another first name, what else do you like? Or alternatively, you mention this is DP’s surname, would you consider giving DC your surname?

FatkinsDiet · 28/01/2021 17:56

Hmmmm I'm not sure I love the sound of it, but I do love the name Robin.

What's your surname / maiden name? Could you use that or double barrell?

partyatthepalace · 28/01/2021 17:57

Yes it is v twee. Sorry..

diddlediddle · 28/01/2021 18:36

I don't mind it actually. Alliterative names can be distinctive. It's not as bad as someone I know who's just called their baby the equivalent of David Dovid.

Calmondeck · 28/01/2021 18:40

I know a Fernando Fernandez and he rocks it. But Robin Rudham doesn’t have that ring to me.

BeesAnkles · 28/01/2021 18:43

Too much, sorry.

lanbro · 28/01/2021 18:44

I find Robin a really wet name for a boy I'm afraid so for that reason alone I would say back to the drawing board!

adrianmolesmole · 28/01/2021 19:58

Robin Rudham sounds a bit like a comedy name to me, sorry.

Hayes178 · 28/01/2021 20:21

My last name is Hayes. Thank you for all you advice so far!

Robin Hayes-Rudham? A bit better I think?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/01/2021 00:12

Yes, Robin Rudham is a bit twee sounding. As pp said, if you double- barrelled your surname it would sound better with Robin. If not, Robert Rudham isn't quite as cutesy sounding (and Robin is a traditional nn for Robert) so that could be an option?

Bluesername · 29/01/2021 00:27

I don't think Robin Rudham works very well. The closest alternative I can think of is Reuben Rudham.

What other names do you like?

Felix Rudham
Edwin Rudham
Thomas Rudham
Julian Rudham
Charles Rudham

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 29/01/2021 02:59

Not keen on Robin , bit soft & yes too twee with your partners surname .

MercyBodle · 29/01/2021 08:41

No, not with that surname.

Ginandplatonic · 29/01/2021 08:44

Well going against the grain here I think it would be fine. It would just become his name. Robin’s not my favourite name, but if it is yours I don’t see any reason not to use it.

Alternatively I like the sound of Robin Hayes-Rudham as a pp suggests, or just Robin Hayes sounds good too.

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2021 10:03

Robin Hayes.

Perfect.

finallychangedmyusername · 29/01/2021 21:40

Robin Hayes is great. Robin Rudham doesn't work well though, sorry.

daisypond · 29/01/2021 22:03

No, it doesn’t work.

NameChange30 · 29/01/2021 22:06

Robin Hayes. Lovely.

Children should have the same surname as their mother, anyway.

Ikeameatballs · 29/01/2021 22:08

Robin Hayes-Rudham is lovely.
Robin Rudham is not.

starkid · 31/01/2021 17:27

Not together, no, I also starting singing rocking robin to the tune haha

Nogardenersworld · 31/01/2021 17:47

Double barrel your name

Or find something similar to Robin
I don’t think the R R is an issue
But it’s the similar sounds at the beginning and the same sort of flow to each name.
So Riley for example is another r name that I think isn’t an issue

What about other in names
Corbin
Calvin
Aydin
Austin
Raiden

Or other r names
Reed
Ramsey
Remi

Synchrony · 31/01/2021 22:28

The alliteration wouldn't bother me.
I LOVE the name Robin. So sad Husband vetoed it!

YoniAndGuy · 01/02/2021 18:01

Use your surname - why would you not? If you don't share a surname, it's better that the baby has yours.
