Love pp's suggestion of Alban. It's more cool and unusual than retro Albert, but more suitable for an adult imo than cutesy Alby (but you can still use Alby as a nn - perfect compromise!)

I really like Albie but you could have Alvie. It was the name of one of the characters in the film Sixty Six. It means wise friend according to a Google search.

I like Alvin, but prefer Alvar. Lovely name, can still be shortened to Al.

Or Alban possibly shortened to Albie.

Alban doesn’t really work shortened to Albie as it’s pronounced All-ban as in St. Albans

Alban can be pronounced either way. Either Al-ban or All-ban. So Albie could work as a shortened form, depending.
