My partner and I want to name our son Mac, as it's a family name (dads name & beginning of surname)

Any middle name suggestions as everything sounds like one long name or like it doesn't fit ❤️

You are literally just calling him Mac?? I think it’s going to sound odd because we think of Mac as the beginning of a name... could you call him MacKenzie or whatever it is as just Mac for short. I think that’s going to work better

IsItAllOverYetPlease · 26/01/2021 21:38

Mac chicken?

sorry, not helpful but I couldn't resist

lockedownloretta · 26/01/2021 21:45

mac is the beginning of your surname ?
so your child will be mac mackenzie
or macmcdonald?

I wouldn't go for just mac

go for a name like macauley or mackenzie or Cormac and then the middle name will fit better

bookshop1 · 26/01/2021 21:47

I know a Mack, I think with the K it seems like a more 'complete' name

Mac(k) Joseph
Mac(k) Robert
Mac(k) Louis

villamariavintrapp · 26/01/2021 21:51

I think Mac is a prefix that means son of-. So I guess if dad's name is Mac, then he could be Macmac? Then you say the surname starts Mac also..?
I do know two boys called Mac actually, one is Cormac, I don't know about the other. Think it's better as a nickname. You could use it as a nickname from his surname anyway though.

@villamariavintrapp
@lockedownloretta

No, i should've specified Mac is my surname, the baby will have dads name so no other Mac in their name 😂

ahhhhhhhh i see
i did wonder!Grin

i still think something like Cormac would be really nice and then you shorten it to Mac but he will still have options for later in life

Aurorie11 · 26/01/2021 22:13

Also a vote for Cormac and Mac as nn

spaceghetto · 26/01/2021 22:28

I like:
Mac Oliver
Mac Jasper
Mac Quentin
Mac Rory

MercyBodle · 28/01/2021 07:11

I have come across a young Mac and a Mack. I really like it.

Mac Jonathan
Mac Thomas
Mac Lucas
Mac Alexander

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 28/01/2021 11:20

Cormac or Malachi nn Mac would be cool

emmathedilemma · 28/01/2021 12:29

I agree it needs to be a nn. The only Macs I know are people with a "Mac" or "Mc" surname.

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2021 15:30

Your DS will be John McNugget known as Mac?

He will be Mac McNugget.

Mac is quite cool.

mummyhelen3 · 06/02/2021 03:29

Rib

HenriettaHeffalump · 06/02/2021 10:39

I love Mac!

Lauren Laverne has a Mac and a Fergus and I always think they are such a cool pair of names.

Mac Alexander
Mac Theodore
Mac Sebastian

TinyCake · 06/02/2021 11:00

Can you say what the surname starts with?

I see what you mean about it sounding like a word.

PattyPan · 06/02/2021 11:42

I think if Mac is his whole first name, it will probably end up sounding like his middle name is part of his first name - a pp suggested Oliver and I read it as MacOliver.

PattyPan · 06/02/2021 11:44

So yes I agree with others that it would be better to have Mac as a nickname because I can’t see a way to get around that!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/02/2021 04:46

I understand you were looking for middle name suggestions but what about calling him Macsen? It's a fairly popular/well known Welsh name and would make middle name choices easier, as most names work with Macsen. It also sounds a bit like "Mac's son" so would be ideal if you have "Mac" in your name!

Macsen Thomas
Macsen James
Macsen Edward
Macsen Jacob
Macsen Joseph
