Which spelling though? Nimue or Nymue?
@SionnachRua

People are talking about where the name comes from and someone rocks up and goes "it's a skincare brand". Might be, but that's not where the name comes from and not what people associate it with or think of first.
But the poster isn't wrong though, are they? It is a skincare brand. Depending on who you're talking to - especially someone from another culture - that might well be the first thing they think of. I don't think that the OP asked for "your strongest association only" at any point either.

Always good to hear any possible associations, I would think.

Fufumuji · 26/01/2021 15:07

Pretty sure the Arthurian legend outdates the skincare brand

Thanks for that, I really had no idea Hmm

I guess it's just possible that I was thinking that someone considering naming their child something would want to know if there was something else with the name, that other people might think of when they hear it?

MissBattleaxe · 26/01/2021 15:13

Many people will pronounce it NIM-OO and your child will spend her life correcting people. Either that or people may assume you couldn't spell Naomi.

It makes me think of witchcraft, like Hecate or Lilith

TheFerretsSleeping · 26/01/2021 15:16

Its a lovely name. its one of my if I had a girl list. Only seen it spelled nimue though. Have you watched cursed on netflix. Main character is called nimue.

GwendolineWindowlene · 26/01/2021 15:19

So, is it NIM-oo? Or NIM-you?

NIM-way is a bit The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

sadpapercourtesan · 26/01/2021 15:22

I would pronounce it Nim-oo-ay

It's a bit "out there" for my taste.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/01/2021 15:23

Yes, because she is the lady of the lake from king Arther legends.

Fufumuji · 26/01/2021 15:28

it's more like Nim-oo-ay

Cam2020 · 26/01/2021 15:32

Nimue is beautiful. I always read it as Nim-way, don't know that I've ever heard it out loud so I could be completely wrong!

PatButchersRightEarring · 26/01/2021 15:36

I know a Nimue and she pronounces it Nim-way. I like the name itself but it does cause all sorts of problems when it comes down to practicalities.

WildCherryBlossom · 26/01/2021 16:11

I like it. I'm quite a fan of Arthurian Legend so I like the associations

binkyblinky · 26/01/2021 16:17

Nimue is such a beautiful name! I love Arthurian legend. I pronounce it Nim - new - ay

My iPhone is trying its best to autocorrect to minus!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 16:20

@rbe78

Oh, I always thought it was pronounced Nim-way, rather than Nim-uh-way?
The lion sleeps tonight Grin
YoniAndGuy · 26/01/2021 16:52

I pronounce it Ole Biscuit Barrel but that's probably a bit regional.

bourbonne · 26/01/2021 16:55

Oh no, that's totally a class thing.

I hope you don't, since there is no N in the middle and nothing else that can possibly make an N sound.

ParisJeTAime · 26/01/2021 19:19

Nimue

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/01/2021 21:34

I adore the name Nimue - such a romantic, poetic and feminine sounding name imo. Unfortunately I think because it is not often used, it will often get mispronounced and misspelt whatever you do, so you'll have to not mind that (I much prefer the more traditional/well known Nimue spelling and "Nih - moo -ay" pronunciation myself).

Oneandabean · 27/01/2021 08:15

I think the tv series cursed is becoming more popular so people may assume you are fans of that. Not so long ago there was someone asking about the name Minnow which was another character on there.
There’s also many different ways to pronounce it which may get annoying. If you’re going to use it stick to the original spelling.

Oddly enough it was on my list for a while, but I think it was hormones
