NN will prob be Annie, Noushi, Ushi etc... whatever forms naturally!
Looking for something unique & not just a filler, and would love it to be both Indian and English! Smile

Sara, Maya, Sonia, Riya, Serena, Hana (Hannah), Yasmin, Lena/Leena, Meera...any of those?

Fwiw I'm Indian and OH is English so I'm likely to face this problem soon too.

@Bluesername Love those! Thank you! I particularly like Jasmine and Rani
@cirrusminor I really like Maya and Riya out of your list although they are all beautiful! So many good options to choose from!

@cirrusminor We are both Indian and want a very easy-to-pronounce name which is why we are not going for anything too traditional! I wish we could but don’t want DD to have the pain of correcting people all her life. Most of the traditional names that I liked sounded really really awful and clunky when said in a British accent!!

I saw an "Ashree" on tv yesterday which I thought was lovely.

@Monsoon31 my parents chose mine and my siblings' names for that exact reason (two of them are in that list!). All our names are proper Indian names but very easy to spell/pronounce and sound beautiful in an English accent. Some people would argue we should ignore that but I for one am thankful for my parents' decision.

I have an indian friend called Dhanya, which I think is a beautiful name.

Maya seems to be the Indian/English name of choice!

Anita is another one that's found in both.

Other popular choices seem to be Jasmine or Ruby.

We live in a very multi-cultural and intra-cultural area so frequently come across mixed heritage names.

Anglo-Indian is quite a problematic term so best avoided unless you’re a descendant of that specific community; my mixed friends prefer British Indian or Indo-British.

We know girls of this heritage called Anya, Ellora, Malini, Jhansi, Mala, Maya, Norah (realise this won’t work unless you’re Ravi Shankar’s biggest fan) and Anjali.

Sia / Siya.

A derivative of Sita and also means victory.

Monsoon31 · 28/01/2021 07:22

Thanks for all the advice!

@SunshineXX1 I like Ellora! although I’m not too sure about the meaning of “caves”.

@DM1209 Hadn’t thought of Siya which is also quite pretty!

I’m conflicted now between Anoushka and another name that has started to grow on us - Anjali, we love both of them!!

How about Rose?
Anoushka Rose and Anjali Rose both sound very pretty to me.
