Opinions please?

No it's nice. Fran also fine.

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/01/2021 19:44

I've taught lots of frankies and they've only ever been boys!

SeanChailleach · 25/01/2021 19:50

The Frankie I know is Frank, on his bc, and now he's a teenager prefers not to have the -ie ending for formal purposes.

ParisJeTAime · 25/01/2021 19:52

I'd go with Frank or Franklin maybe? Frankie is nice for day to day, but I wouldn't put it on the BC personally.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/01/2021 20:37

I wouldn't say too feminine but maybe quite "cute" sounding, which some men when they are older might not appreciate (but a lot of the trendy ie/y nicknames feel this way to me eg. Archie, Alfie, Reggie etc so what do I know!)

EdgeOfACoin · 25/01/2021 20:52

No, not too feminine.

partyatthepalace · 25/01/2021 21:01

Fine as a nn but would register him as Franklin or Francis

legalseagull · 25/01/2021 21:03

Fine as a nick name for a little boy. I can't see a 40 year old man wanting to be frankie though.

CiderWithRosy · 25/01/2021 22:17

Fine for a boy.

MercyBodle · 25/01/2021 23:09

The only Frankies I've known have been girls so I immediately think of girl. I love just Frank for a boy.

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/01/2021 08:58

I would assume Frankie was a girl or a toddler boy. Agree you should have Frank/Franklin/Francis on bc.

TheOneLeggedJockey · 26/01/2021 09:00

It really does have to be his nickname, not his given name!

My BF’s 6YO is Frankie, real name Francis.

MimiDaisy11 · 26/01/2021 12:05

I like it as a unisex name and it works for both I think.

HPLikecraft · 26/01/2021 13:11

No, it's not too girly, but I agree with others that it should be kept as a nickname with Francis/Frank/Franklin being his proper name.

Starbonnet123 · 26/01/2021 13:15

I think frankie is a lovely name for a little lad . I know an adult Francis than goes by the name of franny and it really suits him

SoupDragon · 26/01/2021 13:17

It is not a name for a grown man.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 26/01/2021 16:52

I would go with Frank as the name, and Frankie as a nick name personally.

stellarfox · 26/01/2021 18:09

No but I’d go with Frank or Francis with Frankie as the nickname

VanillaAndOrange · 28/01/2021 18:05

I know a boy whose real name is Frankie and a girl who uses it as a short form of Francesca. I'd probably assume boy unless I knew otherwise. Normally I'd say put a more formal version on the birth certificate, but I actually like Frankie better than either Frank (old bloke) or Francis (just says very very Catholic to me)!

MissingLinker · 28/01/2021 18:08

Not too feminine but I'd put Francis or Franklin on the BC.
I'm pretty sure every Francis/Franklin ends up being called Frank or Frankie most of the time anyway, but at least give them the option.

diddlediddle · 28/01/2021 18:48

Just cannot abide boys names ending in "ie", it's unbearably twee. Bad enough as a nickname, let alone their full name! Frank, Francis etc are all fine.
