Unwanted sibling name theme

If DC1 has a 3 letter name and DC2 is also given a 3 letter name, would you think this was done on purpose to be a sibling name theme?

E.g Lia & Ivy

Enko · 24/01/2021 09:03

No I would think that the parents liked short names

youvegottenminuteslynn · 24/01/2021 09:04

I can't imagine anyone would give any thought to this at all, ever?!

Unless you called them Ant and Dec nobody would bat an eyelid!

HyggeHeart · 24/01/2021 09:05

At first I thought you were saying the sibling was unwanted so what to call them! But no, I'd just think you liked short names.

Swingometer · 24/01/2021 09:07

Yes same as above I would just assume they preferred short names

I don't think any sort of 'theme' would be suspected with just 2 anyway unless they also rhymed or something (Meg & Peg)

DuzzyFuck · 24/01/2021 09:12

I honestly don't think I've ever given a passing thought to how a child's name 'fits' with their siblings.

Ok maybe if you had a George and an Edward already, then followed up with a Moonbeam or Rainbow for DC3 it'd be a bit Confused but still not because of they way they sound as a group.

SavoyCabbage · 24/01/2021 09:19

No, nobody is going to think 'oh she likes three letter names'. Maybe if there were ten children.

partyatthepalace · 24/01/2021 09:27

No. Why?

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/01/2021 09:27

I think you need to get to 3 or 4 before it's a "theme". Even then I think it's more noticeable if it's a same letter or type of name e.g. Fern and Willow.

Some times it can be accidental, friend has a Logan and Rowan and realised they are both berries some time later.

Flymetothestars · 24/01/2021 11:49

Think you're overthinking here

KirstenBlest · 24/01/2021 13:56

Spell them Leah and Iveigh Smile

Buzlightyear1 · 24/01/2021 14:47

I wouldn’t think anything of it, just that they like short names if that. My mum made the mistake of getting little cups with our first letter of our names on . She then realised it actually spelt ASS I’m still woundering today if she did this on purpose đŸ¤£

sleepingfox · 24/01/2021 15:16

Someone I know intentionally gave all their children names with 4 letters and I didn’t notice until they pointed it out after years of knowing them. People are unlikely to give it any thought unless the names rhyme, start with the same letter, etc.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/01/2021 17:28

Maybe if they had a similar sound eg Tom and Sam or John and Jen it would seem a bit weird. But Lia and Ivy are quite different

MumofSpud · 24/01/2021 17:30

Hi both my DC have a 4 letter name starting with E
Not done on purpose at all - and the DS' name doesn't start with an 'e' sound
But I have often thought what would we have done if we had had a third!!

NewYearsEveWedding · 24/01/2021 17:32

@youvegottenminuteslynn Grin

AllHallowsEve14 · 24/01/2021 17:36

My 3dc have 4 letter names, this wasn't intentional. I don't think anyone has ever noticed.

ChnandlerBong · 24/01/2021 17:39

mine both have 7 letter names.

not a theme.

hth

Bluesername · 24/01/2021 18:39

It might cross my mind but I wouldn't think anything else.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/01/2021 18:51

No, but like pp I'd think the parents preferred shorter names. So while you certainly don't need to have a 3 letter name again, I'd perhaps find it a bit odd if your 3rd childs name was very long and more than 3/4 syllables eg. Lia, Ivy and Anastasia.

NewYearsEveWedding · 24/01/2021 19:30

Just realised both my DD and DS have 7 letter names too. Only just realised for my kids, would never cross my mind when it’s other children.
