Change of heart... Anoushka, Anahita

We decided to scrap the names Rohini / Ruhini, as DH and I think these might be too old fashioned/ traditional. We might revisit them again but for now we are considering other options.
What do you think of Anoushka and Anahita?
Any similar name suggestions along those lines, Modern with a bit of an edge?
Thanks! :)

@paiop thanks! Where did you find the meanings?
@KirstenBlest I did consider Anishka but for some reason prefer Anoushka! Can’t really put my finger on exactly why I don’t like Anishka, even though it’s so similar!!

Just googled "Anisha meaning"

partyatthepalace · 23/01/2021 17:58

Anoushka is lovely and feels international.

Serena is also used in India right? Is beautiful and works well in the UK

Luckyelephant1 · 23/01/2021 18:59

I love love love Anoushka. I know an Indian girl called Anoushka, does it really matter
if its also a Russian name?

@partyatthepalace @Luckyelephant1
Thank you!! I did consider Serena but not as keen on it, although it’s a lovely name. What sort of middle names would you pair with Anoushka?

I know an Anahita. She is lovely with amazing beautiful hair (very jealous - were all in our late 40s and pretty grey and she has this amazing sleek black hair) - talks non-stop and is great fun to be with. I'm very fond of the name as a result.

Love Anoushka too but would be put off by the multiple ways of spelling it incorrectly...

partyatthepalace · 23/01/2021 23:46

Did you want an Indian or Anglo middle name??

Anoushka Pearl Anoushka Grace Anoushka Faith Anoushka Rose

Anya is another name also used in India I think?? Also nice and international

Monsoon31 · 24/01/2021 10:52

@LogBasketOfDreams Ah thank you for sharing! :) Does she ever get pronunciation issues?

@partyatthepalace We are thinking of a middle name which is both Indian and English and preferably something quite long (at least as long as Anoushka), because it looks better written down with our very short surname.

OP posts:
partyatthepalace · 24/01/2021 11:11

Ah I see - well Anoushka Serena would fit the bill-

Monsoon31 · 24/01/2021 11:33

@partyatthepalace I quite like that one! It’s on my list!
I was also thinking that a middle name ending in “i” or “y” might be quite nice, to break it up a little bit Serenity doesn’t seem Indian enough...

LogBasketOfDreams · 24/01/2021 12:08

@Monsoon31 No pronunciation issues that I've ever seen. My husband took about three years to remember her name (didn't mispronounce it - just never remembered it!) but he can be a bit like that for any name which isn't Jane, Claire, Sarah etc...

Skyla2005 · 24/01/2021 13:04

How about ayesha

Monsoon31 · 24/01/2021 13:33

@LogBasketOfDreams That’s great! It seems like a pretty straight forward name in terms of pronunciation to me too
@Skyla2005 I’m not keen on Ayesha as it doesn’t have any meaning in Hindi/ Sanskrit and is a Muslim/ Arab name. Beautiful name though!

I like both savitha or saima
Would they be an option for you?

Monsoon31 · 24/01/2021 22:16

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee
Savitha is okay, not too keen on Saima!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/01/2021 22:20

And of course Congratulations on your pregnancy, how exciting🌟

yummytummy · 24/01/2021 22:21

Anamika?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/01/2021 22:29

How that pronounced id say Ana-Me-Kah
But I can see the potential for Ana-My-Kah

Monsoon31 · 25/01/2021 07:07

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee thank you! :)
It’s Anaa- mi- kah
@yummytummy Why do you prefer it? Just curious!

OP posts:
yummytummy · 25/01/2021 10:26

I like it because it reminds me of the song. There is a classic old film with a song "anamika tu bhi tursey"

orangenasturtium · 25/01/2021 10:44

I love Anahita. I know 2 Anahitas, both are Parsi. Anoushka is lovely too.

Monsoon31 · 25/01/2021 22:15

@yummytummy Oh I see! Anamika does sound similar to Anahita, love both!
@orangenasturtium We are thinking of ruling out Anahita; because in a British accent, it doesn’t sound as nice as it does when said with a soft “t”.

OP posts:
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/01/2021 23:39

Anahita will end up pronounced by some as Anna Heater
Like Emma is pronounced as Emmar in some English regions

Monsoon31 · 26/01/2021 07:36

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee I totally agree, we are going for Anoushka! It ticks all the boxes. Ahahita is beautiful but doesn’t transition well when speaking in other accents / languages.

zigaziga · 26/01/2021 07:48

Anoushka is one of my favourite names. Love that you’re going for it! Don’t really like any of the others suggested.
