First name to go with middle name of Lily

Hi,

We have chosen the middle name Lily for our baby girl due in Feb. This is a family name my partner is certain on. Our surname is Dolby but we are really struggling with a first name and would like some opinions.

Here is our list of options (but open to others)

Macie Lily
Evelyn Lily
Nancy Lily
Nora Lily
Marcey Lily
Harlow Lily

Many thanks 😊

Ava lily

I personally wouldn’t have anything ending in a y sound. Also about Elizabeth as suggested by PP I think and I could be wrong here but Lily can be nn for Elizabeth.
Therefore it’d be like having a child called Daisy Margaret.

Martha Lily
Alexandra Lily
Jessica Lily
Madison Lily
Sophia Lily
Edith Lily

Agreed that if you have two "ee" ending names already, the first name needs a different ending. I'd worry that an Evelyn would end up as an Evie. Evelyn Lily is a lot of L sound (IMO) - I'd avoid names with L sounds in them. I also prefer Lillian to Lily if that's an option, I find it more substantial. Suggestions:

Carys Lily or Carys Lillian
Cora Lily or Cora Lillian
Sabrina Lily or Sabrina Lillian
Nina Lily or Nina Lillian
Freya Lily or Freya Lillian
Annika Lily or Annika Lillian
Jessica Lily or Jessica Lillian

I'd also lean towards first names ending in an 'ah' sound. Also remember her full name won't be spoken very often at all (unless you hyphenate it).

Anna Lily Dolby (Anna Dolby)
Ava Lily Dolby (Ava Dolby)
Ella Lily Dolby (Ella Dolby)
Emma Lily Dolby (Emma Dolby)
Elena Lily Dolby (Elena Dolby)
Maya Lily Dolby (Maya Dolby)
Nora Lily Dolby (Nora Dolby)
Isla Lily Dolby (Isla Dolby)
Eliza Lily Dolby (Eliza Dolby)

Laila Lily

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 17/01/2021 17:52

Evelyn is a lovely name and gives a few nice options to shorten it as well

Amdone123 · 17/01/2021 18:30

Evelyn Lily Dolby

Lily and Dolby don't sound great together as the sounds are too similar. First name Lilian Dolby to honour Grandma sounds great though and has a retro/vintage feel like some of your first name choices (even Lilia would work better with your surname, if you dislike Lilian).

I'm not keen on most of your first name choices but Evelyn Lilia Dolby would work okay despite all the "L's" and is the nicest of them imo. Other first name options:
Cora
Clara
Ada
Alva
Florence
Vivien
Freda
Louisa
Helena

Thanks for your replies 🙂
I feel like Lily and Dolby are a nightmare mix of names to mix together.
We are open to using Lilian or Lilia as a middle name as down to some of your suggestions I can see how this flows better.

What's everyones opinion on a first name that begins with a 'D' like Delilah? Or does it sound comical?

Delilah Lilian Dolby shouldn't work because of all the "L's" but it actually sounds fun and kinda glamorous imo (like a golden age Hollywood Actress!). Delilah is lovely, if a bit trendy.

Scarcity20 · 17/01/2021 22:18

I love Macie lily and Evelyn is nice too. Don't like the rest sorry! And Nora always makes me think of nitty Nora for some reason!

Happenchance · 17/01/2021 22:34

I struggle to say Delilah Lilian Dolby I'm afraid OP. There's too many L's in it for me to get my tongue around. Though I agree with PP that Lillian Dolby sounds better than Lily Dolby.

frostedingaling · 17/01/2021 22:38

Evelyn Lily is lovely, my DD is called Esme Lillian and a lot of people comment saying it’s pretty

Bluesername · 17/01/2021 22:55

Lilia and Lillian are nice alternatives to Lily. I like Lily but it's more awkward to say with Dolby.

Serena Lilia Dolby
Serena Lily Dolby
Natasha Lillian Dolby
Jessica Lillian Dolby
Juniper Lily Dolby
Hannah Lily Dolby
Katherine Lilia Dolby

wizzler · 17/01/2021 23:07

My first thought was Jessica but I also like Miriam and Martha

Amdone123 · 18/01/2021 08:09

@Clarkey91 Delilah Dolby sounds fab to me.

sleepingfox · 18/01/2021 09:35

I like Nora and Evelyn best from your choices, I agree with avoiding -ee sounds at the end. I do like Delilah with your surname, but with the middle name it’s a lot of L sounds which can be clunky. I think Lilian flows best with your surname too, even though I love Lily and Lilia.

ILoveShula · 18/01/2021 09:55

Calla

Sheleg · 18/01/2021 11:13

The names that end "-ie" or "-y" don't go with Lily as a middle name, IMHO.

Clarkey91 · 22/01/2021 16:31

Been thinking about a change on the first name. Has anyone got any opinions on the name
Eva Liliana Dolby? Or Eva Lillian Dolby?

Eva is a lovely name, but there are lots of Eva, Evie and Ava's around, if that's something that would bother you. I think Eva Lilian sounds great.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 25/01/2021 21:25

I think Eva Liliana is really pretty. I kind of prefer Liliana to Eva and might put it the other way around.
