Is Dorothy popular?

Just that really. I love Dorothy and feel like it's on a lot of baby name threads and lots of people say they love it but is it actually popular? Will there be half a dozen Dorothy rubbing around reception in 4 years time?

I have an aunt Dorothy who is in her 90's so I associate it as an old lady's name.

I do quite like it but she hates it. She says hardly anyone calls her by her full name but always Dot or Dotty both of which she dislikes.

I think Dorothy is quite nice but, like her, hate the shortening of it

There are two in dd’s class (year 6).

There was a Dorothy in my class at school and I thought it was an old lady name even then.
DH suggested it if we'd had a girl. It was a definite no.

Love it! My grannys name. I don't know any. Love nn Dolly.

I have never met a young Dorothy. I do like the name though and think a comeback may be around the corner.

Macblondie · 12/01/2021 18:36

I’ve been working in schools for nearly 20 years and I have never met a child called Dorothy. Smile

Thanks everyone. I think Dorothy might be edging out in front. It's between Dorothy, Winifred and Gwendolyn. Although DH will probably veto Dorothy now 🤦🏼‍♀️

I know one whose about 2 but that's it. It's a cute name

Terracottasaur · 13/01/2021 15:23

This was my pick for if my baby had been a girl - I love it! I think it’s still fairly unusual but I reckon it’s due a comeback.

ParisJeTAime · 13/01/2021 15:36

I also love Winifred! Winnie or Fred for short. So cute! Think it might be a bit marmite though.

Sheleg · 13/01/2021 16:01

I know one who is my age (39).

It's such an ugly name. Nothing redeeming about it. So lumpen.

Flymetothestars · 13/01/2021 16:34

Dorothy is by far the nicest from your list @grandmasterstitch it's lovely

Flymetothestars · 13/01/2021 16:35

Gwendolyn Is alright but it's too long and complicated to spell. I'm not the best at spelling and really struggle with names like this

bridgetreilly · 13/01/2021 16:45

Pick Winifred! It's so cute and she definitely won't have others in her class. She can be Winnie or Freddy, both of which are also lovely.
