So we are still having the major revival of Victorian to 1940s names. It started with Evie, Ava, Elsie-Mae, that sort of thing. Then the Alfies, Hectors, humphries, Alfreds, etc for the boys. At the moment I know of some Margots, Beatrixes, Florences, Ava just being born. My great-grandma was a Margot.

I think an 80s-90s resurgence could be on its way- Emma, Louise, Lauren, Jennifer, Tiffany, Christina, Kayleigh, Rachael, Claire, Stephanie.
Boys: Jason, Christian, Matthew, Ryan, Luke

I’m thinking at the end of this decade we could see a revival of 50-70s names- Tracey, Lorraine, Christine, Linda, Angela, Carol, Beverley, Elaine, Lesley. men are less obvious, names like Stephen, Richard, Gary, Kenneth, Keith, Trevor, Colin

Another idea is more global names irrespective of a baby’s heritage to reflect places being more multicultural.

I think it will be 1920s -1940s names for a while before we will start seeing the 60s - 80s ones making a comeback. So a move away from Victorian/cutesy names to simple, strong but elegant names like:

Vivian
Valerie
Jean/Jeannie
Joan/Joanie
Anne
Helen
Maude
Marjorie
Maeve
Dorothy
Pearl
Vera

Male names tend to change less but I can see these becoming possible popular options:

Frank
Walter
Bernard
Leonard
Stanley

I think;
Anne, Ellen, Catherine, Susan etc will come back as almost a backlash to the cutesy names that all sound so similar.

Stephen, Andrew, Christopher, Daniel could possibly too.

I love these names!

I think Scandi names is a good call.

I think the 20s-40s names are already back. I know two Baby Maudes, three Baby Maeves and five Baby Pearls

SendHelp30 · 11/01/2021 00:12

Leonard (Lenny) Stanley and Frank all very popular round here.
I love Peggy, it was DH grandmothers name too so if I have any more I would probably consider Peggy. My DD is Eva which was my great grandmothers name so would go nicely too.

Mally2020 · 11/01/2021 01:48

Agree with most of these, I think people are mistaken on here, the 80's names are already making a big comeback , the scandi style names are definitely creeping in and as sweet as the older style names have been I think they will cool down over the next year or two

RubyFakeLips · 11/01/2021 07:01

I’m sure 80’s names are making a comeback. I think it’s a mistake to assume the name trends will follow in chronological order.

I personally love an 80s name too! I actually know of a Whitney born recently and saw Jodie being asked about on here too. Both scream scrunches and shell suits to me.

WatermelonKisses · 11/01/2021 09:09

I actually know of a baby Michelle which is so 80s!

I think scandi and viking names are due to keep rising but moving from the more mainstream names like Freya to the more unusual like Bjorn or Ragnar from vikings/the last kingdom.
I think for girls especially there will be a continuation on the strong females from history like Rosa, Emmeline, Florence, Elizabeth, with a daughter on the way myself I'm really keen on giving her a strong name either after a strong female from history or name that means strength, warrior etc.
I think it will be a while before we see an 80s resurgence, perhaps when that generation are the grandparents or even great grandparents of the new borns similar to how our generation are going back to names popular in the early 20th century.
