A classic, or still a bit too 90s?

It's a classic AND a 90s nostalgia name. Can't lose x

dementedpixie · 09/01/2021 13:10

I have one of them, she's 17

Boyorgirl3 · 09/01/2021 13:21

Classic, I know a 1 year old Emma, suits all ages, and not too popular in these days, great choice.

WiseOwlRelaxing · 09/01/2021 13:25

I like it. I also like Jemma / Gemma

Swingometer · 09/01/2021 13:27

I would say it's a classic, there were plenty of Emma's born in 60s/70s/80s and also in the past 20 years so I don't associate it with the 90s

Ginmebaby · 09/01/2021 13:30

Beautiful - makes me think of the Austen novel. And a very neutral name which could be from any walk of life.

notsosmoothie · 09/01/2021 13:38

It's my favourite. Love it.

EdgeOfACoin · 09/01/2021 14:04

Classic.

It's surprisingly popular in the USA at the moment - I think they missed the 'Emma' trend in the 80s.

emmie841 · 09/01/2021 14:44

Love it

Edenember · 09/01/2021 15:34

I think of it as pretty classic rather than retro.

AtlasPine · 09/01/2021 15:35

I’ve always love this name.

SionnachRua · 09/01/2021 15:36

Classic (I don't get 90s vibes at all)but very safe and boring.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/01/2021 15:38

Classic to me

JemimaTiggywinkle · 09/01/2021 15:38

Definitely classic. Really nice name

plumpootle · 09/01/2021 15:40

Beautiful name - I love it

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2021 15:53

Of course it's classic, its history goes back to the Middle Ages.

It's my favourite name.

MonkeyPuddle · 09/01/2021 15:56

I am one.
I like my name, easy to spell, easy to shortern/nickname if that’s your thing. It’s never struck me as overly popular as I don’t often meet any other Emma’s and I come into contact with lots of small babies through work and I’ve not met many there either.

SilverOtter · 09/01/2021 16:00

I love it

ladymalfoy45 · 09/01/2021 16:04

Emma Peel.
But then I’m biased when it comes to the name Emma........

SuePream · 09/01/2021 16:09

I've got a teenage Emma. I still love the name and so does DD.

ParisJeTAime · 09/01/2021 16:27

I have one, so am biased! I liked the Jane Austen connection and DH just liked the name. Also we liked that it probably wouldn't date and that it travels well.

I do hear it a bit more now than when she was a baby. She is 6. When she was born there were tonnes of Emilys and Amelias, but no Emmas in our acquaintance. I hear it sometimes now, but still don't think it's mega popular.

CoodleMoodle · 09/01/2021 16:42

I'm an Emma. Born late 80s. There were 8 of us in my year at high school! But I quite like it as a name, it's simple and nobody ever has to ask how to spell it!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/01/2021 16:56

Classic. It was popular in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but not to the extent of say, Sarah. Emma or it's variants have likely been used in the UK since at least the 11th century and thanks to regular film/tv remakes of Austen's Emma many people will consider it a period classic (rather than a more dated one, even if they aren't aware of Emma's history).

I personally prefer the similar Anna but Emma is pretty, traditional, suits all ages and is simple to say and spell - a good choice imo.

partyatthepalace · 09/01/2021 20:27

A classic. Great associations - Emma Peel and Jane Austin etc and good international recognition.

swiftt · 09/01/2021 20:49

I love it. I don’t think it’s 90s at all, and I know Emma’s of all different ages.
