I like them as nicknames but you should give them proper names too (I.e. Theodore/Edward and Harriet) even if you only ever call them by their nicknames. Children grow into adults and in my opinion it’s only fair to give them proper adult names to use for official things when they’re grown if they want to.

Hattie is nice, but I'm not keen on Hatti.
Teddy for a girl - ok I suppose but I first heard it called out by her sibling in Tesco a few years ago, so not new.

Firebird83 · 08/01/2021 16:24

Hatti looks strange. Hattie is the usual spelling.

I prefer them short for Edward and Harriet.

Firebird83 · 08/01/2021 16:24

Or is Teddy for a girl? In that case it’s ok if short for Theodora

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 16:51

Both nice

Teddy for a boy or girl? But anyway would give them a full name as well as the nn so when they are adults they have options - Theodora/Edwina or Theodore/Edward.

Hatti is usually Hattie, and again would give a full name - Harriet or Henrietta

Teddy for a girl or a boy? It's a cute nn for Edward. I'm less keen personally on Theodore or Theodora but still better them than Teddy on the BC imo.

Hattie is a fun nn for Harriet (or maybe Henrietta if you're brave).

VenusClapTrap · 08/01/2021 22:28

Twee

Labobo · 08/01/2021 23:08

They are great names. I'd put the adult version Theodore or Edward or Harriet on the birth certificate and call them by their nicknames.

Changethetoner · 08/01/2021 23:29

those are nicknames, what are the actual names you will be giving your child?

percheron67 · 08/01/2021 23:35

Dreadful. Teddy sounds as if he is a footballer and Hatti - as opposed to Hattie - looks as if you cannot spell.

zigaziga · 09/01/2021 00:02

I’ve always absolutely loved Hattie short for Harriet. Hatti without the e though? Why?

Teddy.. Well, lots of people love the name but it’s one of my least favourite names. It’s very twee. Teddy as a nickname for Edward or Theodore is fine as it can get dropped later. If you don’t want it short for a name why not just Ted? You could still use Teddy whilst very little, but they won’t then be a 25 year old with a name like a teddy bear.

maddsclairelouise · 09/01/2021 00:07

I love Teddy for a girl, or a boy, but especially for a girl!

HunkyPunk · 09/01/2021 00:21

Teddy sounds as if he is a footballer

A footballer? How dreadful! Bit of a bizarre comment, too. I'm not sure Teddy is an archetypal footballer's name, if indeed there is such a thing!

I like both names. I would probably add an 'e' to Hattie, though.

SE13Mummy · 09/01/2021 00:31

I like both as nicknames but would definitely put an e on Hattie. I'd also go for Theodore/Edward and Harriet/Henrietta so your DC has nickname options for the future e.g. Hattie can be shortened to Hat, Hats or Tee whereas Harriet has extra options such as Harry/ie, Riot, Rea etc.

everybodysang · 09/01/2021 00:31

Hatti is not great and will be a pain through her whole life. I do like Hattie, though. I know about 7 (grown up) Hattie's - they are ALL very posh PRs! But also all very very nice.

I think Teddy is rather nice.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 09/01/2021 03:18

Hattie with an 'e' is a lovely nickname for Harriet.

Teddy is a lovely nickname for Edward or Theodore.

Both names are very much nicknames so I think really need a full name

SuitedandBooted · 10/01/2021 00:34

They are both cute nicknames. Give them a proper name too, and use a short version if you want.

Remember you are naming and adult, who may grown up to anything but cute!

Is Hatti pronounced like Haiti or Hattie?
Hattie is nice as a nickname for Harriett.
Teddy is very common here and over used.

Edward and Harriett are both lovely names.

LuckyFlash · 10/01/2021 10:32

I know a 7 y/o Theodora who was known exclusively by teddy since birth. As soon as she went to school and was surrounded by boys called teddy she demanded to go by her full name as she didn’t like having a ‘boys’ name any more. So if you’re thinking of teddy for a girl then definitely agree go for a longer name so she can change to Thea or Dora if she likes. Hattie is fine as a full name I think but think it looks better with an E

ParisJeTAime · 10/01/2021 10:48

I know someone with a Hattie who said she really regretted not giving her a longer name on the BC. I'm not puritanical about that; putting long names on the BC. But, personally, I think Teddy and Hatti are nicer as short versions of longer names (Edward or Theodore and Harriet)?

FWIW, I love all those long names and love Hattie as a shortening. Teddy is cute on a little boy, but I prefer Ted for a grown up.

ParisJeTAime · 10/01/2021 10:51

Oh if Teddy is for a girl, then yes to Theodora (which I also love).

daisypond · 10/01/2021 13:53

They aren’t proper names.
Teddy for a girl is short for Theodora or possibly some other names.
Hatti isn’t a name. Hattie is short for Harriet.
