Noah, Jacob and ??

I currently have 2 boys Noah and Jacob and now expecting a girl.
I found boys names so easy but girls names are so hard.
I prefer names that are less likely to be shortened. So far we've been okay with Noah and Jacob.
Popularity isn't a great concern, if we love a name we will use regardless.

Many years ago before having children I always said I wanted Noah and Amelia. But I'm not sure I completely love it.

Some other names I like are:
Juliet
Lyra (recently heard, what are your opinions on this?)
Eliana (again recently heard)
Rosie (my sons love Rosie because of a baby they know called Rosie, but I know someone with this name and I'm worried she'll think baby is names after her)

I'm put off by associations for alot of names due to the job I do! Which makes it even harder. Any help would be greatly recieved.
@viques I'm not against biblical names! I love alot of biblical boys names. Its just from the job I do I have met alot of people and have negative associates with most biblical girls names or I just dislike them
Fair enough! Shakespeare it is then.

I love Juliet.

I think Rose is my favourite of your list. Classic, simple and beautifully timeless, like your boys. I wouldn't worry about a wannabe namesake. You know why you chose it.

Lyra is lovely and unlikely to get shortened. It's not "on theme" with your boys names, but it's equally strong. She'll be her own person and doesn't have to fit in.

Juliet and Eliana are very likely to get shortened. Juliet is lovely though. There are a lot of Ellie's so I'm less keen.

What about Alice?

FluffyEggsontoast · 08/01/2021 13:04

Clementine
Verity
Audrey or Aubrey
Alice

QuantumJump · 08/01/2021 13:08

Of your names I love Juliet and Lyra.

Alice goes beautifully x

UPDATE

I adore Juliet. My only concern is its very unusual compared to Noah and Jacob. She would never be able to get things with her name on like they can.

I've met a baby Rachel recently and I did think how nice is sounded. But I've met a few undesirable Rachel's too.

I do like Eve.... but surname is short one syllable so not sure it works.

Think I would prefer Rosie to Rose if I'm honest. Because Rose sounds very harsh with the surname.

Alice.... I want to love it, but all I can think is A Lice or Alice the Camel song from Brownies many years ago!

The boys names instantly felt right but for some reason none of these girls names do.

What about Eva as a compromise on Eve

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 08/01/2021 14:01

I would choose Juliet. I don't think jts too unusual at all! Its very well-known and fairly well-used (although not common which is nice). I think it has the best 'feel' with Noah and Jacob. Lyra is amazing and lovely because of the character in the Philip Pullman books but i wouldn't put it with Noah and Jacob as it has a very different vibe (unless you dont mind that?) I prefer Juliet slightly, but it can obviously be easily shortened (although no more easily than Jacob! So if iy isnt a problem for Jacob I am sure you can endure it isn't a problem with Juliet.

Eliana goes well with Noah and Jacob, being not biblical but a religious name, but it will definitely get shortened. It's also a bit frilly for my liking.

Rosie is very cute but all the Rosies I know have shortened their name to Rose now they're adults. So i'd choose Rose or Rosa with Rosje as a nickname. It also sounds nice with sibling names.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 08/01/2021 14:04

I strongly dislike Amelia. It is so common and I don't like the 'meely' sound. It reminds me of worms for some reason 🤔

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 08/01/2021 14:06

If I could choose any name for Noah and Jacob's sister, my personal choice would be Iris or Clara.

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 14:13

Like both Lyra and Amelia (seem to be more Emilias right now)

A few short ones below, some of them biblical but don't think they are thought of as such

Lois
Frances
Anna
Ellen
Elowen
Freya
Caitlin
Rosa (or Rose) nn Rosie or Rosanna?
Nancy
Eliza
Robin
Evelyn
Jocelyn

Martha!

orangenasturtium · 08/01/2021 14:30

Eliana is a Hebrew name so it "matches" Noah and Jacob, if that is what you want.

Other Hebrew names similarish to the names you like:

Lyra: Lior, Liora, Leila, Leah
Rosie: Raisa, Raisal
Juliet: Yael
Eliana: Ilana, Ilanit

There are lots of other names with Hebrew origins that aren't biblical and have anglicised forms eg Elizabeth, Gabriella, Isabella, Abigail, Tamara, Aviva, Zinnia, Dalia, Talia, Ariel, Daniella, Sarah, Zara.

Anon0987654321 · 08/01/2021 14:30

@sheslittlebutfierce I do like Martha BUT is it a little old fashioned maybe?

I love Eliza but can't use.

Anna is pretty but again like with Eve/Eva I'm a bit unsure eith the short one syllable surname @partyatthepalace and @SendHelp30

And Thank you! I'm so surprised by the response of so many people wanting to help. Very much appreciated.

My DD is Eva Rose with a 1 syllable surname - think White.. goes well.

Eliza is lovely.

Infact I’ve just realised all 3 of my children have the same syllables -
2 syllable first name - 1 syllable middle - 1 syllable surname

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 14:37

I don't think Juliet is unusual. It's possibly less used now than it once used to be, but it is classic and lovely.

I also really like Lyra.

I don't think Rosie 'fits' with your boys names as well as some other suggestions. But how about Rosalie, or Rosalind? Both can be nicknamed Rosie.

Other short, classic names

Emma
Anna
Thea
Erin

WildCherryBlossom · 08/01/2021 14:38

Juliet is really not so unusual. Thanks to Shakespeare everyone has heard of it. But you are right there aren't loads of them around. I know 3 - a teenager, a 30 something and an elderly lady and it really suits all their ages. It's a very pretty name.

I also really like Lydia or Phoebe with your boys names (continuing the biblical theme).

BabyMoonPie · 08/01/2021 14:39

Rachel! My nearly 4 year old DD is Rachel so I am very biased but it's clearly the best name on the thread! 😉

NoSquirrels · 08/01/2021 14:39

Anna is pretty but again like with Eve/Eva I'm a bit unsure eith the short one syllable surname

But it's a 2-syllable name and so are your boys' names - and a lot of the names you are considering like Rosie/Lyra...

Anon0987654321 · 08/01/2021 14:49

@NoSquirrels if you say Noah and Anna they sound very similar. That's more my worry with Anna than being 2 syllables. Sorry I didn't explain very well.
I do like your suggestion of Erin though. That's a very nice name. Not too girly either.

@WildCherryBlossom Phoebe is nice but it runs into the surname and also I'm terrible at spelling it and I've seen so many awkward spellings, that would put me off I think.

@SendHelp30 I like the suggestion of Eva. Maybe Eva Juliet? Could be a potential for the short list.

I also like Theodora, Serafina and Arabella. I know it goes against my principle of having a name that's less likely to be shortened. And I'm worried I may regret it if the name ends up being continously shortened.

OP posts:
partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 15:05

Hmm I think depends on the surname, I think it could be simple and smart if it's something like eg Anna Grant, Anna Kerr - I think it maybe needs quite a hard letter to start the surname, Anna Smith, Anna Ross doesn't sound so good.... thank you for distracting me from work...

partyatthepalace · 08/01/2021 15:09

Love all these

Seraphina - think it's usually ph in UK - it's the name of a cousin and she never shortened it

Arabella - a lot of Isabellas aren't shortened (tho a lot are obviously)

Theodora also lovely, but I think somehow it is almost certainly going to be shortened, so you'd want to try and direct it - I like Teddy and Dora/Dorey, but not Thea

Going back to work now...
