Recently came across this variant of Astrid. As a fan of E-names and liking Astrid despite the ass- sound at the start but ultimately unwilling to use because of that, I think I much prefer this version. Thoughts?

I'd think you were saying 'Astrid' with a posh pronunciation.

Anyone else sitting here with phrases going through their heads in a South African accent? Grin

Astrid is a lovely name- I know a couple, and have never thought about "Ass, primarily because the English word is "arse".

It's a brand of razors.

Makes me think of the razor, those ads are everywhere

I love both Estrid and Astrid. Estrid is an older version of the name, although it would have been Æstrid in old Norse so both names coming through. I don't think people will read it as a miss-spelling, it's quite clear as it's own spelling to me and I do know a couple. I think, because of the new razor brand, I now slightly prefer Astrid.

Estrid sounds like a contraceptive to me. Astrid is nice.

Personally I wouldn't know whether to pronounce it ee-strid or es-trid so could be correcting people a lot, or potentially using a nn like Essie which i quite like. I do like the meaning and thought behind the name though
