Do they go?

Francis would be shorted to Frank not Frankie..

I'm not a fan of Francis and I think Frank goes better with Archie

SquirtleSquad · 01/01/2021 16:15

You won't be able to fully control people definitely not calling him Frankie as a nn so if you really dislike Frankie then don't go for Francis (Frank).

Herewegoagain4 · 01/01/2021 16:35

I wouldn't worry about if they go, once you say their names together a few times they will go. Its more important to pick a name you love. But yes I think they do go.

YoniAndGuy · 01/01/2021 17:21

Well I really hate Francis - it manages to be sneery and nasty and wimpish all at the same time, so no! But - also no because if you don't like Frankie it's a bit of a daft choice. He'll almost certainly be Frankie.

Archie is ok.

YoniAndGuy · 01/01/2021 17:22

Oh I see! You already have an Archie?

No, I don't think they go at all. And having one with an 'ie' ending is practically INVITING people to go '... and Frankie'!

scentedgeranium · 01/01/2021 17:25

Garghhhh you can't plan nicknames! If your child is Francis people will just say Frank or Frankie and you'll have no control. Weird MN obsessions with nicknames surfaces again! The whole point of a nickname is thay it evolves

partyatthepalace · 01/01/2021 18:02

I dunno why but while I love Frances for a girl I am not keen on it as a boys name... but I like Frank - as long as you don’t absolutely hate Frankie (in case it just evolves into that at school) then I think the combo is fine.

Covidscared.
I think you've come to the wrong board.

I agree, I think if you already have a child with a "cute" nickname type name like Archie, people will be tempted to change Francis/Frank to Frankie so it "matches" his brother.

Maybe if you insist on his full name from the start you could avoid this, but "Frankie" might be inevitable once he's at school unless he is willing to speak up/insist himself.

PoppiesinOctober · 01/01/2021 21:05

Nope - don't think they suit.

Bluesername · 01/01/2021 21:17

Yes, I think they go well Smile

MercyBodle · 02/01/2021 05:53

Archie and Frank are great as a pair of brothers. I love both and think they work well together. I'd leave it as Frank though. I dislike Francis and don't like Archie and Francis together.

TheNanny23 · 02/01/2021 07:44

I’m sorry I’m just coming at this board with horrible nickname anecdotes tonight but the Francis I knew got called ‘Wankie’ in high school and that’s what immediately came to mind.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 02/01/2021 15:29

I much prefer Frank as the full name, rather than Francis.
Archie and Frank are really nice together.

TicTacTwo · 02/01/2021 17:22

I think that having a brother with an -ie name will increase the odds of Frankie rather than Frank. Would you name him Frank which is much better than Francis?
