for Tabitha and Reuben's sibling are,

  • Naomi. When I was a kid I knew a few very mean Naomi's so in my head it was always a bit of a school bully name. But since it was suggested several times on my last thread, I can't get it out of my head. I also love the biblical story of Ruth and Naomi. What do you think?
  • Josephine. I LOVE nicknames Josie and Sephy! I think this is such a sweet name.
  • Esther. Another strong biblical namesake and pretty name.
  • Mary. I think Mary is so cool and dignified. I imagine a little Mary to be strong and brave and fiesty.
  • Jemima. So pretty! I adore the full name, but I am less excited by nickname options.
Harriet - I just really like the nickname Hattie, but I seem to have started a biblical theme and wonder whether it would be odd to discontinue it abruptly. Genevieve - my husband's favourite, but he likes it only sith the English pronunciation, and we have a lot of french friends. I think it might be a bit embarrassing to use a french name but just the English version.

Boys:
Gabriel - LOVE this and love nickname Gabe
Caleb - love this too
Elijah - and this, but think it would he nice to have all the names with a different end sound, and Elijah and Tabitha both have the same end sound.
Isaac - too common?
Moses - is this TOO biblical?

So what would you go for? What is the nicest in its own right, and also what sounds nicest with siblings? I know baby names dont need to go together but on the other hand it is nice when the do!

Oohh, forgot Amos and Joseph! Recently discovered in my family tree so would be cool to use them but just can't quite imagine a little Amos

Gabriel or Naomi.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 31/12/2020 06:50

Sephy as a nickname for Josephine? Hmm

tiredteacher100 · 31/12/2020 06:52

Joseph or Gabriel
Naomi

I've recently discovered the name Eleni which I love and also ends in an i which is unusual

nevergoingoutagain · 31/12/2020 07:13

My Josephine gets called Josie mostly but we also call her phina or fi fi and obviously a multitude of other ridiculous nicknames lol (jingles and fingers????)

Esther is another of my girls fab name! Although she gets called Esther Pester poor girl lol

nevergoingoutagain · 31/12/2020 07:16

Not so keen on Naomi, I also knew a few horrid ones!! Mary is classic and Jemima lovely but I couldn't use it because of the puddleduck associations.

My other girl besides Josephine and Esther is Frances if that helps?! Lol

MercyBodle · 31/12/2020 08:14

Harriet, Jemima or Mary
The only one I dislike though is Naomi.

Gabriel or Caleb. Isaac is okay
I dislike Elijah and Moses. Moses is not too biblical if the others are okay - it's no more biblical than most of your other names.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 31/12/2020 08:15

Yes @lyinginthegutterstaringatstars , sorry that this seems to trigger you for some reason 😂 finding it really funny that not liking a nickname bothered you enough to comment JUST that on the thread 😂😂😂

@nevergoingoutagain so maybe I was right, maybe Naomi IS a mean-girl name if you had that experience too! LOVE Josie, I think is is so cool! Frances is lovely, had considered it for a boy but not a girl, i really like it though! Esther Pester is funny Grin

Eleni is very pretty, but is my friend's daughter's name! I think it is beautiful but can't use.

@mercybodle you're right of course! They are all equally biblical. Maybe Moses is just less common so the bible is my only referemce when i think of Moses, whereas the other names i all know people in real life or books/films etc so they seem more usable 🤔

I think Esther is the best of your girl picks, although I've always liked Jemima (just not keen on "Jem" which I assume it would get shortened to). For a boy I like Caleb best but actually I like all your boy name options.

lemonandthyme · 31/12/2020 08:36

Such a lovely list.

I love the name Josephine. It’s one of those names that’s underused without being too unusual. Love the shortened name potential too. I’m sure why a PP was questioning Sephy as a nn, have I missed something? Also really like Esther.

From your boys names, Gabriel and Elijah are lovely.

All of these go really well with the sibling names IMO

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 31/12/2020 08:38

Esther every time!

Probably Joseph for a boy - none of them are massively to my taste though tbh so you can discount me if you like Smile

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 31/12/2020 08:39

Also - Naomi is a mean girl name round here too!

NeonSparkle · 31/12/2020 08:48

Josephine with nickname Josie
Caleb or Gabriel (Gabe)

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/12/2020 09:56

Tabitha, Reuben and Mary definitely. Love Mary. It's due a comeback

Tabitha, Reuben and Amos or Tabitha, Reuben and Isaac

PoodleMoth · 31/12/2020 10:07

Esther and Amos I like. Gabriel/Gabe is more common than Isaac where I live

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/12/2020 14:28

Josephine is my favourite from your girls list and is the one that I think fits best with Tabitha and Reuben - as it's similarly underused yet well known, but doesn't have as obvious a matchy biblical feel (unless that's what you want?) It's also very pretty and classic and I love the nn's Sephy/Effie. If you prefer more obviously biblical then my second choice would be Esther of your list.

Of the boys - I'm very torn between Gabriel and Caleb but I think Caleb just edges it as it feels slightly quirkier so I think matches Tabitha and Reuben that touch better.

Chilldonaldchill · 31/12/2020 14:34

I would use Hester as a much nicer (in my view!) version of Esther (ask the Esthers I know are really wet and I think Hester sounds cooler and stronger) and then use Hettie as a nickname. I totally love it!
I'd use Gabriel for a boy.

danascully96 · 31/12/2020 19:08

Am American, so Jemima gets Hmm looks from anyone from that side of the pond, but it should be fine in the UK. Regardless of associations, I still find the name odd and frumpy, unfortunately.

Josephine and Mary are my faves of your girl list. Esther is too close to “Hester” for my liking, although she has a BA story in the Bible. Harriet is just not my style at all either.

Of your boy names, I’m most fond of Joseph, then Gabriel. The others I’m not keen on.

TFSRM · 31/12/2020 19:13

Hester and Amos are my favourites

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2020 20:07

For me it would have to be either Josephine or Gabriel.

Firebird83 · 01/01/2021 00:48

Esther or Moses
