Due a second girl soon. First is called Ella. We're trying to get it down to 5 or 6 names (it was about 25 two weeks ago!)

Thoughts on these names please:

Ruby
Annabel
Imogen
Sophia
Holly
Charlotte
Phoebe
Jasmine
Lyla
Lucy
Rosalie/ Rosa

Middle name possibilities:
Seren
Eira
Elowen

I love Annabel and Charlotte most from your list. I think Ella and Anna sound like adventurous sisters (instead of the Bella suggestion of pp)

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 19:11

I think Imogen, Sophia, Charlotte are the nicest.

Rest are all ok other than Lyla which sounds made up to me.

I’d go for Imogen as bit less popular than Charlotte or Sophia.

Imogen Seren is quite nice.

Pls ignore the PP suggesting Rubella, sounds like a vaccination.

I don't think anyone was suggesting Rubella as a name, I think they were just pointing out that if you have two daughters called Ruby and Ella, it may sound a bit like Rubella (German Measles) when you say them together. I think it's a bit of a push myself, but worth bearing in mind.
IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/12/2020 19:54

11.Ruby - popular but still sounds a slightly old lady to me

  1. Annabel - pleasant enough, bit Sloane - prefer Anna or Isabel
2.Imogen - lovely, Shakespearean and not too overused 1.Sophia - beautiful and lovely meaning - shame it's so popular 9.Holly - not my taste but very Christmasy! 3.Charlotte - lovely and classic, can't go wrong 10.Phoebe - never been fond - too many "ee" sounds 6.Jasmine - prefer the more elegant sounding Jessamine 7.Lyla - Lilah spelling looks much nicer imo 8.Lucy - classic but a bit cute/sweet for me 4.Rosalie/ Rosa - both are pretty, especially Rosalie but I still like the classic, simple Rose best.

I like all your middle name options:
2.Seren - nice, but popular in Wales
1.Eira - one of my fave Welsh names
3.Elowen - pretty but could have pronunciation issues outside Cornwall?

Carrotcakey · 28/12/2020 19:54

I think Charlotte goes best with Ella. I like all of them apart from Imogen and Sophia

purplecorkheart · 28/12/2020 19:56

Holly Eira

Cleverpolly3 · 28/12/2020 20:03

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Lucy Elowen 😍😍
It’s beautiful isn’t it

@Bee175 by far the most appealing combination IMO

DacwMamYnDwad · 28/12/2020 20:13

May I make a suggestion, please?

How about Eluned (ELL-inn-ed) as a middle name. I think it's nicer than Elowen, but has a similar feel to it.

Rosa Eluned?

MealyPotatoes · 28/12/2020 20:50

Ella and Holly
Ella and Phoebe
Ella and Lucy

I like all the above. I don’t think any of the middle names go with Holly though.

Bee175 · 28/12/2020 21:20

Thanks all.
We've got rid of Jasmine (Sad) and Imogen as the M sound doesn't sound quite right with our surname.

Struggling with the Ella and... tbh that's hard enough to say!

Is the Ella and Ruby, Rubella thing likely to be thought of? Hadn't occurred to me and I think Ruby is my front runner but this does put me off!

maureenfrombarnsley · 28/12/2020 21:35

Lovely list, OP

My choices to go with Ella (love all of these!):
Charlotte
Ruby
Phoebe
Holly

"OK" options:
Sophia
Imogen
Lyla (though hard to say with Ella)
Lucy

Dislike:
Annabel
Jasmine
Rosalie/Rosa

Sorry but I dislike all the middle names, I'd pick one of my top 4 insteadGrin

maureenfrombarnsley · 28/12/2020 21:39

And id never have thought of Rubella, I had to re-read your last post to even get what you meant! Lol. Ruby is a great choice to go with Ella. Personally I'd go Ruby Charlotte.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 28/12/2020 21:59

My favourites are Lucy and Rosalie. I think Rosalie just edges it as it's more unusual.

Nell96 · 29/12/2020 16:41

I really wouldn't worry about the Rubella thing - I don't think it's something most people would think of, I certainly didn't. Also, because of the ages, you're probably more likely to say 'Ella and Ruby', rather than 'Ruby and Ella'.
Bluesername · 29/12/2020 17:54

Narrowing down to 6 names I'd go for:

Annabel
Sophia
Holly
Phoebe
Jasmine
Lucy

They're all lovely names and I'd pick a middle name from these too.

Annabel Sophia
Sophia Jasmine
Sophia Lucy
Holly Annabel
Holly Sophia
Phoebe Jasmine
Jasmine Sophia
Jasmine Lucy
Lucy Annabel

pinkpinecone · 29/12/2020 20:16

Ruby, Rosa, Lyla or Phoebe

MercyBodle · 30/12/2020 04:14

From your list (Imogen was my favourite):
Love:
Ruby
Annabel
Phoebe
Lucy

Like:
Sophia
Holly
Charlotte
Lyla (but too like Ella)

Dislike:
Rosalie, Rosa
Jasmine

Phoebe Seren
Annabel Eira
Lucy Elowen
Ruby Elowen
Charlotte Elowen
Sophia Seren
Holly Elowen

missmouse101 · 30/12/2020 05:19

Holly Seren. By far the nicest. Elowen is awful- L.O.N.

Chilldonaldchill · 30/12/2020 12:58

Ruby - it's ok. Very popular. And one of those names that people hyphenate into Ruby-Mae or Ruby-May a lot so even more popular than it looks
Annabel - I like this
Imogen - I love this
Sophia - it's ok. I think I know too many to really love it
Holly - don't like. Dull
Charlotte - I really like this. Pretty, strong and stylish. Well known but not super popular.
Phoebe - one of my pet hates. I hate the way it sounds like feeble
Jasmine - don't like
Lyla - I don't like this but I love Lyra
Lucy - I like this
Rosalie/ Rosa - I like both of these

Middle name possibilities:
Seren- gorgeous
Eira - gorgeous
Elowen - gorgeous

I would pick any of your middle names as first name over any of your first names!!
But from your lists I would go for:
Imogen Eira
or
Charlotte Elowen

Changedname81 · 30/12/2020 13:17

Pretty list

Ella and Lucy
Ella and Jasmine
Ella and Phoebe
Ella and Ruby (as pp says, be careful of ‘Rube’)

Lucy Elowen
Phoebe Seren

I also like Daisy with Ella in case you wanted to add more Grin

SendHelp30 · 30/12/2020 13:17

Ruby & Sophia are my favourites

Flippingnightmare · 30/12/2020 13:19

Lucy, Holly or Ruby - all lovely! With Charlotte as a middle name
