Not Rowan with Green it sounds like a paint colour! I’m not a fan of Robyn, I think it’s too masculine. Sylvie is ok, although should it not be Sylvia non Sylvie?

Frankiefarr · 27/12/2020 17:29

Hi Sylvie is the French version

I don't like Robyn - possibly because it reminds me of a character from 'The Thick of it', and also just not keen on the sound of it, particularly the 'byn' part.

I love Rowan for a girl, but I'm not sure it flows very well with Green as a surname - maybe it's too many Rs and Ns? Not sure.

Sylvie is lovely, I'd go with that. Although I also prefer Sylvia if that's an option - I think it works a lot better with your surname - three syllables has a better flow I think, and you can always shorten to Sylvie as a nn.

Pudding01 · 27/12/2020 19:34

I like Robyn and Sylvie. Both completely different styles though. With your surname Robyn wins it for me

partyatthepalace · 27/12/2020 19:38

I like them all. (Much prefer Robin spelt normally though, and I lots of girls spell it like this.

I think Sylvie and Robin go better with Green, Rowan Green sounds a bit lumpen.

I like Robin slightly more than Sylvie.

TildaTurnip · 27/12/2020 19:41

Sylvie.

The other two sound like paint colours with your surname and Sylvie Green sounds lovely!

FippertyGibbett · 27/12/2020 19:41

I like Robyn.
Much nicer than the other two.

Firebird83 · 27/12/2020 19:55

Sylvie. Although it means forest so it’s a bit like “forest green”

Bluesername · 27/12/2020 20:38

Robyn Green reminds me of Robin Hood for some reason. Rowan Green is too leafy a combination. Sylvie is best of the three although I prefer Sylvia.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/12/2020 00:46

The people with Green as a surname I know in RL have classic first names, as Green is a difficult surname to pair any nature related name with (as it sounds a bit descriptive - Silvery (Sylvie) Green, Tree (Rowan) Green, a Green Robin etc).

As pp suggested, Sylvia (with Sylvie as a nn) would be nicest - less descriptive and the 3 syllables is lovely with a 1 syllable surname (and the emphasis is less on the matching "ee" sounds in Sylvie and Green if you choose Sylvia).

Other less descriptive nature related names that would sound nice with Green are Laura or Cassia.

MercyBodle · 28/12/2020 01:17

I like all 3 names very much. With your surname I think Sylvie is the best. Definitely stick with the more modern and fresh Sylvie, not the dated Sylvia. Sylvie is a lovely name in its own right, as Sophie is. It is not a nickname for Sylvia.

Whatsyourflava · 28/12/2020 16:04

Top choice - I like Sylvie best or Sylvia nickname Sylvie

Bottom choice is Rowan as it's so trendy these days, meaning it will date. It's also too similar sounding to the fastest rising boy name Roman (also Reuben) and I also don't like the fairly inevitable shortening to Row.

PlantPotting · 28/12/2020 16:16

Sylvie Green is beautiful. Looking at the official ONS statistics, only 118 babies were named Sylvie in 2019, if popularity is a factor for you.
Rowan is my baby girl's name. It does get muddled with all the Roman, Rohan, Reuben, Ronan type of popular names, which is a shame. It's also much more popular than I was expecting (over 800 babies with this name in 2019 and continuing to rise; over 2,000 babies if you include all the Roman's in the total too). Gets shortened to Row.

PlantPotting · 28/12/2020 16:22

Robyn Green or Rowan Green are nice but sound a little strange to me. Like it's the name of a nature reserve.

resm · 28/12/2020 22:34

Sylvie Green sounds beautiful. I don’t think Robyn or Rowan flow as well with your surname, sorry.

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/12/2020 14:10

Definitely Sylvie

YoniAndGuy · 29/12/2020 15:03

Definitely Sylvie of those three - the others sound like posh paint colours! However, Sylvie = sylvan = forest= green... it's still a bit borderline. They are very closely linked words really, are there no other names you could go for?

HeadlessGummyBears · 29/12/2020 20:33

Robyn, Sylvie and Rowan are all great but I think Robyn and Sylvie go well with your surname.

Other suggestions, with obscure nature links, that go well with Green would be:
Guinevere
Heather
Liliane/Lilliana
Marina
Marissa
Morgana
Nerissa
Olivia
Rosalind
Rosalie
Tabitha
Viola
