What do you think of the name Finn for a boy? Not shortened from anything else.

I love it, but it's very popular at the moment. Not sure if that would bother you. I know 6 Finn's under the age of 5 x

Sleeeeeepy · 26/12/2020 11:41

@DontFadeAway Really?! Blimey I don't know any, we've got a lot of Henrys around here for some reason. Which region of the country are you in if you don't mind me asking?

DontFadeAway · 26/12/2020 11:43

I'm in the South East ☺️ it seems to be Finn's and Theo's at the moment - it may be different in other parts though xx

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 26/12/2020 11:47

I have a Fynn 16.. None at his schools ever except when a teacher used it for her ds!!

Sleeeeeepy · 26/12/2020 11:48

@DontFadeAway ah OK, I'm originally from the South East but now in West Mids, maybe I've somehow brought my preferences with me 😂

@Santaisironingwrappingpaper now that's a vote of confidence!

I have a Finn. He's the only one in his school. Year 3, North East.

He's great and has loads of nicknames from different people based on his name.

My brother calls him Finnbar, at nursery he was FinnyFinn, I call him Finnster, he's Finston to one of his pals...

TravelToFranceOrNot · 26/12/2020 11:50

East Anglia here, I have a Finn. We don't know any other Finns but have met a few Finley/Finlays! Grin

Sleeeeeepy · 26/12/2020 11:58

@Bridecilla @TravelToFranceOrNot thanks great to know 😊

I know two under 2 - both sons of friends.

Peachbubble · 26/12/2020 16:07

I really like it, much more than Finley/Finlay or Flynn. Don't know of any, but plenty of Finleys/Finlays.

LadyEloise · 26/12/2020 18:01

@Bridecilla
Saint Finbar is the patron saint of the city of Cork in Ireland

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/12/2020 20:51

North west england.
Quite a few finns.
I think I know at least one in each year from y12 down to y2.
Dd has 2 in her class.
Ds had 3 in the class below him.
Also common here is ronnie and ryan

pizzaandcats · 26/12/2020 21:16

I have a cat named Finn. I'm actually a bit gutted that I've used the name on my cat as I love it and would have probably given it to a future DS 😂 We usually call him Finnsey

MaryShelley1818 · 26/12/2020 22:38

I love Finn/Finley.

I'm North East and do know a lot though....5 friends/colleagues have a Finn/Finley and I work with children and probably know half a dozen more at least.
It was one of my favourites when I had DS but DH vetoed it.

Moo31 · 27/12/2020 00:42

I have a 3yo Finn so I am biased - we loved it long before we were pregnant and we still love it. We're in Northern Ireland and I can count on one hand the number of Finn's we have "met" since he was born. There are none at his daycare and I'm hoping that transfers to school so he isn't known as "Finn [initial of surname]"!

june2007 · 27/12/2020 00:46

I would asume is was finlay/finley/finbar. Not keen on it,s own also reminds me of Huckleberry finn.

Dreamymcdreamer · 27/12/2020 00:49

I like it but as above I know a few under the age of 4 or 5 if that's something that puts you off!

I much prefer it to Finley/finlay

You might like this. Lots of lovely old stories

DramaAlpaca · 27/12/2020 01:19

I love the name Finn. Unfortunately I ran out of children to name so had to use it on the dog. It's supposed to be popular but I only know one and he's a teenager.

MercyBodle · 27/12/2020 04:31

I like it very much.

Sleeeeeepy · 27/12/2020 10:04

@LadyEloise oh that's a coincidence, my late Grandma's family were from county Cork.

Thanks for the link @TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams I'll have a good read 😊

It's so interesting that there seem to be pockets of loads of Finns but not many elsewhere. We've got loads of Harrys, Henrys and Arlos here but no Finns

South East here.
My son has 3 Finns amongst his closest friends but one is really a Finlay.
