Too many t's

Would you use names like Harriet (Hattie) or Henrietta (Hettie) if your surname begins with a T or is that just too much? She would have a non T containing middle name but it wouldn't often be used.

I say its too much but my husband thinks not.

I think Harriet is a bit much, because I would trip slightly over Harriet Taylor - but Henrietta Taylor is fine because the names don't end and begin with the T. If she would always be known as Hettie or Hattie then fine too.

Chilldonaldchill · 26/12/2020 10:09

No I think both are fine.

ofwarren · 26/12/2020 10:10

Sounds fine to me
Harriet Taylor
Henrietta Taylor
It's not awkward or clunky to my ears.

Mamette · 26/12/2020 10:12

I would avoid having a name that ends with the same letter of the surname, so not Harriet Taylor. Henrietta Taylor is fine though.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 26/12/2020 10:22

Hettie is my all time fave girls name and would have been used but we had boys. I’d use it unless the surname is Tettie as I just think it’s a fab name!

diddlediddle · 26/12/2020 10:26

I agree with you, too many Ts. Although names ending in a solid T are worse.

Ellmau · 26/12/2020 10:27

Henrietta works better than Harriet.

elfran · 27/12/2020 08:08

As others have said, Harriet Taylor elides but Henrietta Taylor sounds fine. I rather like repeating sounds in a full name, as long as the first and last don't run into each other and become "one word" as in the first case.

MispyM · 27/12/2020 10:51

Yes, I would.

Henrietta works better imo. (and I personally prefer it to Harriet.)

beautifulclouds · 27/12/2020 10:53

I think Harriet wouldn't work, but Henrietta would.

Plum34 · 27/12/2020 10:59

I think its fine x

WilsonandNoodles · 28/12/2020 17:15

Thank you all for your comments. It's completely made me rethink any T sounding names as I had ruled them all out. I think Henrietta is our front runner as we both love Hettie and Etta.

It's completely fine to have one 't' sound in the first name and one in the second name. I think you are way overthinking this.

daisypond · 28/12/2020 18:15

They are both fine. I agree with others in that Harriet elides into the surname somewhat, but it’s still OK. Henrietta is completely fine.

nettytree · 28/12/2020 18:23

I have 5 ts in my name. My maiden name had 3 and my married name has too. Its a stupid surname too, but I love it.

NickMyLipple · 28/12/2020 18:31

My daughter is a Harriet with a T surname. I can't see or hear an issue.

Matilda (Tilly) on the other hand.....!

Whatsyourflava · 28/12/2020 20:04

I don't see an issue at all and think you've chosen a lovely name

It's worth remembering that 99.9% of the time, a first name is used on its own so I'd really focus on picking a first name you love and not on whether it sounds perfect with a surname

ConcertinaWorm · 28/12/2020 20:08

I love Henrietta. It is a bit different and has lots of scope for shortening/nicknames. I’ve only ever come across one Henrietta (Hetty) when I worked in schools.
