We are stuck on names. DH loves Elise - I do too. But I really want Heather, after my mum..
which would you choose?

Heather! Much more interesting than Elise

DecemberDiana · 23/12/2020 23:10

I prefer Elise.

chipshopElvis · 23/12/2020 23:29

Ooh Heather, it's lovely and underused.

MercyBodle · 24/12/2020 02:16

I prefer Heather.

MerchantOfVenom · 24/12/2020 02:20

I would probably go for Heather out of the two, but not if it’s already your name and your Mum’s.

And I can totally see that your DH might want his DD to have a different name from his wife.

Elise Heather means you’re still naming her after your Mum.

mangothoughts · 24/12/2020 02:30

Elise, much prettier. I also think Heather is really dated now like calling your child Sarah or Lorraine.

mynameisHeather · 24/12/2020 11:29

Heather on the other hand is frumpy and dull and I just think of brown

Its not frumpy or dull and Heather is purple Grin

Indiethecat · 24/12/2020 11:51

mynameisHeather it's my opinion and yep I just think of brown dullness.
It's so dated, I find it a horrible name.

Chilldonaldchill · 24/12/2020 15:29

I prefer Heather to Elise but I think it's really weird for 3 generations to have the same name. So I'd go for Elise.

NeonSparkle · 24/12/2020 15:35

I’m not a fan of heather it’s very 80’s to me I’m afraid. That said obviously if you love it and it’s your mums name then you should use it! Its not as if it’s terrible name, in fact out of context it’s quite pretty sounding- it’s only that it’s a little dated that I’m not keen.

Gosh you seem to have taken this pretty personally. Communication hint: if someone does a grin face they are being a bit tongue in cheek. No need to get your defensive, 'well that's my opinion' arse on.

Having said that, saying its a horrible name when OP has said it is both her name and her mother's is pretty fucking rude.

EuphieKat · 25/12/2020 06:44

I love Elise (DD’s middle name) but I Heather is underused.

Candycane2020 · 25/12/2020 06:50

I love Heather

Rangoon · 25/12/2020 06:52

Elise is lovely and classic. The only Heather I knew had some kind of sucky blanket which travelled everywhere with her including taking it to school at age 5 so she could gnaw on it. My mother was absolutely horrified at the time. I have to say it put me off the name but on the other hand I got the wrong name by mistake so I'm possibly not in a position to comment.

Scissor · 25/12/2020 07:09

@TreacleHart

Heather is a great name. Elsie is getting very popular, I know of a few born this year. Nothing wrong in that, but I think Heather is nicer by a mile.
And here is the problem with Elise...though I completely love the name...welcome to a lifetime of Elsie
Iwant2move · 25/12/2020 07:25

Elise. My partner’s daughter is Elise. It has never been mistaken for Elsie nor does it get shortened.

calimommy · 25/12/2020 07:28

Heather is lovely, but I am biased as a Heather 😉
However I wouldn't give her your name as a first name. I feel the same when men do this, it is unnecessarily confusing and antiquated. I appreciate you are named after your mother but you have asked for opinions and that is mine. Incidentally, I am planning to give my baby Heather as a middle name (we always use a family name as the middle name and there weren't any family names we badly wanted to use nor any which worked well with the first name we have chosen. Also given I do all the work for these children, why not use my name haha!)
Elise Heather is very beautiful.

calimommy · 25/12/2020 07:32

@Indiethecat unnecessarily rude

EugenesAxe · 25/12/2020 07:37

Elise - for some reason I find Heather heavy and dowdy... I feel the same way about names like Ruth or Frances.

Also, it's weird to call your child the same name as you! Unless you're American I guess. Why not consider Erica, given it's heather's Latin name?

Apologies as I haven't RTFT and I'll bet the US thing and Erica have been said.

BlenheimOrange · 25/12/2020 07:53

Here (London/SE) Heather would be pronounced Hevver, so I took it off our list for that reason.

Oneandabean · 25/12/2020 08:25

I would have said 100% heather but if it’s your name and your mums then definitely not. Give her her own name.

OhBollocksToIt · 25/12/2020 23:17

Elise is a lovely name. Give your DD her own name and identity. I just don’t get this naming children after mum/nan etc thing. Use it as a middle name.

HeadlessGummyBears · 26/12/2020 02:15

Heather and Elise are both great but seeing as your name is also Heather after your mother, I’m voting for Elise Heather to avoid confusion.
