advice plz! we are 8 months pregnant with a girl (so time running out on this lol) and the Mrs and I can't agree on the spelling of our little lassie's name. She says Tony (but that sounds like a boys name lol) and I say Toni (which she says sounds "classless"). help!!!

Toni for a girl, Tony for a boy.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/12/2020 16:56

I personally am not a big fan of Tony/Toni for a girl but if I were you I would spell it Toni. Tony definitely says boy to me.

ThatchersGapingVag · 22/12/2020 16:57

Neither. It's my name. I absolutely hate it.

I know 2 others with this name who also hate it, 1 male 1 female.

SingleWontMingle · 22/12/2020 16:58

I really don't like the name.

InTheLongGrass · 22/12/2020 16:58

Antonia ->Toni for a girl.

butterpuffed · 22/12/2020 16:59

Toni for a girl

DonkeyMcFluff · 22/12/2020 16:59

Tony is a boy, Toni is a girl. It’s not “classless” - I know a very posh lady called Antonia who goes by Toni.

Nell96 · 22/12/2020 18:20

Agree - Tony for a boy, Toni for a girl. Don't like the name at all, but I do like Antonia, and it would give her another option.

HappydaysArehere · 22/12/2020 18:26

As above. Toni for your girl.

Carrotcakey · 22/12/2020 18:29

Tony is a boys name.
Toni or better still Antonia nn Toni.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 22/12/2020 18:30

I like Antonia but really dislike Toni.

So that way she wouldn't have to be Toni if she didn't want to

Viviennemary · 22/12/2020 18:30

Not keen on either. But it's Tony for a boy. And worse Toni for a girl. But Antonia is a good option.

Roselilly36 · 22/12/2020 18:31

Antonia is a beautiful name, Toni is a great nn.

FestiveStuffing · 22/12/2020 18:33

Antonia. Tony is a boy's name, Toni is more feminine but doesn't give her many options if she wants a more grown up name when older.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/12/2020 18:34

I'd really suggest using Antonia on the BC - imo it's kinder to give her more options. You can still call her Toni day to day (Tony is the boys version) but Antonia is much more timeless and classic than just Toni, which has an 80's feel.

daisypond · 22/12/2020 18:36

Toni for a girl, but not as her official name. Antonia is good. There may be some other names that would serve too - can’t think right now.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/12/2020 18:38

My friend Antonia goes by Ana, and loses her (rather well-spoken) shit if anyone calls her Toni. Funnily enough, she'll tolerate Tonia. Nowt as queer as folk 😂

ApolloandDaphne · 22/12/2020 18:40

Antonia is really lovely.

MalcolmHowes · 22/12/2020 21:18

Thanks guys, I think Toni definitely wins the day then lol

Firebird83 · 22/12/2020 23:00

Toni, definitely.

YoniAndGuy · 23/12/2020 10:26

Please put Antonia on her birth certificate as the full name!

Then you can call her Toni as planned but she's got another option for when she's an adult. I also know a Toni who HATES her name. It's pretty grim I'm afraid - outdated and just not attractive at all.

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 10:30

Please call her Antonia!

You are right that Toni is the female short form, and Tony really does suggest a man. But it’s an old fashioned 70s / 80s sounding name now, so give her some options. She also may really not like having a male sounding name, feminised spelling or no.

Kingkong66 · 23/12/2020 10:43

Toni is very much an 80s (downmarket) name to me. Sorry. Antonia if you must.

MalcolmHowes · 23/12/2020 17:08

Thanks for all of the advice out with the original question guys, that's git us thinkin now. Is Toni really such a bud name? Alternatives plz then and the winning name may even win a prize lol Smile
