What do you think of this for a girl and pls recommend me other names based on this💫

It sounds like a nickname.

Unfortunately it brings to mind the movie in which I believe the girl nicknamed Gigi was being groomed to be a courtesan.

But it could be short for Georgia, Georgina, Georgiana, Giana/Gianna, or any name starting G really.

Reminds me of nicknames like Lulu (Lucy, Lucille, Luella, Louise) or Riri (Rita), Libby (Elizabeth), Kitty (Catherine/Katherine).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/12/2020 11:50

It depends on how its said, If you're pronouncing it Gee-Gee I quite like it.
I would assume it was short for Giana.Georgia/Georgina. I don't like Giggy though.

Other suggestions.
Kiki. Saskia. Keira. Lakisha.

Raya
Tiana
Nyra
Nova
Cece. Celia.
Fifi. Fiona. Phoebe
Vivi. Vivienne.
Via. Olivia. Octavia.
Zsa Zsa.
Jovie.

emmathedilemma · 18/12/2020 11:50

Sorry, i think it's pretty awful and unless you're french people will probably pronounce it more like geegee as if she's a horse!

bearlyactive · 18/12/2020 12:00

I'd always think it was short for Genevieve as I know two Gigis who are Genevieve.

cortex10 · 18/12/2020 12:03

Spencer Matthew's and Vogue Williams' daughter is Gigi

florascotia2 · 18/12/2020 12:03

Traditionally it was short for Josephine.
The 'g' at the beginning is a soft sound in French, similar to the beginning of Joseph (in French).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/12/2020 12:09

As pp suggested Gigi (pronounced Jeejee) is traditionally a nickname for any girls name starting with a Jee sound (like Gia) but especially double G names like Georgia/Georgina.

Similar sounds would be Cece (Cecilia), Mimi (Miriam), Vivi (Vivien), Evie (Evelyn), Bibi (Beatrice), Fifi (Sophia) etc.

That's really interesting. I knew Gigi had French origins, but not that it could be short for Josephine - lovely.

I think celebrity pop culture:

Youtube personality
"Gigi Gorgeous"

Spencer and Vogue's daughter Gigi

Gigi Hadid

For similar names I think:

Cece
Mimi

Coco
Lulu
Lola
Mila
Bella
Monet

JanewaysBun · 18/12/2020 12:44

I prefer a hard G like gigi hadid (,also love her full name jelena so so much)

joystir59 · 18/12/2020 12:45

Dreadful. Unless you are a drag queen or prostitute

KirstenBlest · 18/12/2020 14:16

People singing Thank heaven for little girls might be annoying.
Gigi was short for Gilberte.

sunshineandshowers21 · 18/12/2020 14:22

my daughter’s name is georgiana and whilst we mostly shorten to georgie both her brothers call her gigi.

VenusClapTrap · 18/12/2020 16:34

It can be a shortening for Giselle, which is beautiful.

cathyonthebloc · 19/12/2020 21:38

Ellmau · 20/12/2020 00:14

alexdgr8 · 20/12/2020 00:16

no.
sounds like a prostitute.
pick a proper name.

doglover875 · 20/12/2020 00:21

It sounds god awful. My local MP's newborn daughter is called gigi and its trashy and weird.

Lemonlemon88 · 20/12/2020 01:50

I know a Gigi who is just a Gigi and it’s awful, she wishes she had a formal name too.

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 20/12/2020 03:49

I LOVE it but it is slang for penis where I live (not Europe so don't worry). Like it as a nn for Genevieve. Also love Cece!

groovergirl · 20/12/2020 08:07

Defiinitely not as a proper name. It's silly. Call her Genevieve, Ginevra or Georgina and use Gigi as a nickname.

Orphlids · 20/12/2020 08:20

I like it, I think it’s rather fun. I’d rather like to be named Gigi.

Bumpsadaisie · 20/12/2020 08:53

I think it's a boy's nickname in Italian? For Gianluigi?
