Hello

I would like to learn opinions for name Heidi. How common is it in UK?Does it work well Or sounds weird?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PeskyRooks · 16/12/2020 09:56

I love it!
I know 2 Heidis but they are in their 30s. Also know a Springer spaniel one!

Beamur · 16/12/2020 10:01

Uncommon.
I like it. I know one in her 40's maybe?

Spied · 16/12/2020 10:03

I only know of one. Under10yo.
I like it. It's classic and it suits any age imo.

TeddyDidIt · 16/12/2020 10:07

I love it - it was second on our list! We wanted a name that is well-known so wouldn't need repeating and spelling often, but not overused.

purpleme12 · 16/12/2020 10:08

It was number 93 in the most popular names last year
I like it

YoniAndGuy · 16/12/2020 10:44

Generally uncommon, but also universally recognised, only one way to spell it, no-one will ever say 'You what?'

So basically a perfect jackpot name as long as you like it!

I love it - it's friendly, interesting, not too long or short, just lovely.

tomatobuster · 16/12/2020 10:45

Nice, simple, underused, good meaning.

emmathedilemma · 16/12/2020 11:06

I've only known one, she's about 9 now.

ellenpartridge · 16/12/2020 11:27

I like it. There's one in my daughter's class and I hear the odd one around but it's not overused.

linda851 · 16/12/2020 11:31

Such a sweet humble name.

JanewaysBun · 16/12/2020 13:33

Almost used it foe DD

Although reminds me of Heidi montag or Heidi from sugababes

Monkeytapper · 16/12/2020 13:44

I have a Heidi Elizabeth Surname

She is the only Heidi in her primary school at the moment. People comment how nice it is but I know a few people who aren’t keen.

percheron67 · 16/12/2020 13:47

Went off this one when my friend's dyslexic husband spelt it "Hidey".

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 13:50

I really like it. I only know one Heidi, she is late 40s. Lovely lady, and the name always reminds me of someone happy and bubbly, which she is!

bridgetreilly · 16/12/2020 13:50

People of my age will immediately start singing the theme tune to the TV show from 40 years ago. But other than that, it's perfectly fine. Not super-popular, but universally recognised.

EileenGC · 16/12/2020 13:57

@YoniAndGuy I also thought there was only one way to spell it, until the Radfords had their last baby.

I love all of their children's names and I think they have great taste, but they didn't quite get the spelling right with the last one. She's Heidie which to me looks too much like hehehe. (I know, there's a reason why they used Heidie but still!)

So if you decide on Heidi OP, please don't use one of the 'unique' spellings. Heidi is perfect as it is.

Bigoldmachine · 16/12/2020 13:57

I like it. Disagree about it being rarely used though, I know quite a few under 5. Still nice though

YoniAndGuy · 16/12/2020 14:01

No, there is only one way to spell Heidi and the fact that the Radfords can't spell it doesn't change that!

I just googled it, and the first hit is the Sun, and while they spell it with the 'e' in the text, the headline spells it Heidi - even the Sun would automatically use the only way Heidi has ever been spelled ever ever in the history of the world... so I think you'll be ok OP.

VenusClapTrap · 16/12/2020 18:09

Lovely name. I also like Heida as in the Poldark actress.

Cindie943811A · 16/12/2020 19:53

OR you could go for Adelheid, which from memory I believe was Heidi’s given name.

DramaAlpaca · 16/12/2020 21:31

I dislike it intensely, it's so cutesy.

MercyBodle · 17/12/2020 03:06

I'm not keen on it.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/12/2020 12:31

Lovely! Not that common, but still familiar enough that it won't raise eyebrows or be mispronounced or mis-spelt

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/12/2020 22:12

Not especially common in the UK, and still quite associated with the children's book. Having said that, Heidi's well known enough that no- one would be surprised by the name or likely to comment on it - it's just not a name that I personally like the sound of very much (I personally prefer the name of her friend Clara!)
