Matilda, Annabel or Elsie?

What would your choice be and why? From a long list i think it will be one of these 3. I like Annabel because it's versatile- nickname Bel maybe, me and DH have always liked Elsie and Matilda is another one i keep coming back to.

I like them all but particularly Elsie. Lovely old name that's regained favour recently.

MissPinkCakeyBun · 10/12/2020 17:48

For me it's a case of Tilly, Bella or Ellie.... which shortening of the name do you like most as it's always ends up being shortened.
My daughter is a Jo it was a choice of 2 names but the logical shortening of both was Jo so we just picked one.

Have a think about how the sound with your last name and how the look written down in full and as initials. My family name is double-barrelled and we have some howlers of initials

Good luck they are all beautiful names

Annabel

Burnthurst187 · 10/12/2020 17:57

Matilda for me, Tilly for short

Firebird83 · 10/12/2020 18:04

Annabel. Just Anna would be nicer though.

TeddyBeans · 10/12/2020 18:09

Matilda for me, it's lovely

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2020 00:17

Either Annabel or Matilda.

Definitely not Elsie.

MercyBodle · 11/12/2020 05:15

I really like all 3. For first choice hard to choose between Matilda and Annabel.

garlictwist · 11/12/2020 05:22

Annabel followed by Matilda. Elsie is awful.

garlictwist · 11/12/2020 05:23

But not Tillie. Too twee.

MonkeyPuddle · 11/12/2020 05:23

I have a baby Matilda, we call her Tilda. I’ve not noticed many other Matildas to be honest.

Pandabuzz · 11/12/2020 21:22

I like Elsie best. Matilda/Tilly is nice too. I’m not too keen on Annabel and I would avoid it due to multiple spellings.

YoungScrappyHungry · 12/12/2020 07:02

Matilda 100%. It's much more 'bad ass' than the others, which are a bit twee.
Love Tilda for a nn @MonkeyPuddle !

mangothoughts · 12/12/2020 07:17

Love Annabel - prefer the Annabelle spelling though. Lots of nice nn's - Belle, Bella, Anna, Annie.
Matilda is ok, not keen on a few of the nn's - Tilly or Tilda but I do like Matty
Elsie - have always really disliked this name not quite sure why.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2020 08:18

All pretty awful old lady names..

honeybee1986 · 12/12/2020 08:35

I have a 4 year old Matilda and have not come across another one here in south east in nursery or in and other activities she does . Most people shorten to Tilly but we mostly call her Tilda 😊

emilybrontescorsett · 12/12/2020 20:24

Annabel by a mile. Elsie is very old lady. I don't like Matilda it just reminds me of Waltzing Matilda. I think it's a very wknd name.

sameday2021 · 12/12/2020 20:29

Annabel!! I wish I'd used it! Perfect for a little girl but so adorable as a teen or adult. Feminine but strong. Adore it!

TheNanny23 · 18/12/2020 03:52

Have you decided?

Ellen35 · 18/12/2020 05:48

I think it's between Annabel and Matilda now x

Love the name Annabelle! But it’s really popular so I’d maybe go with Elsie just as gorgeous!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/12/2020 11:02

I think it's between Annabel and Matilda now x
If you don't like Elisabeth, imo Elsie on it's own will date the most and isn't as classic feeling - so I think that's a good decision. Either Matilda or Annabel are fine - I slightly prefer Matilda, but as pp have suggested I'd choose based on which nn's you prefer (I would guess Tilly for Matilda and Annie for Annabel would be the most common).
VenusClapTrap · 18/12/2020 17:34

Anything but Matilda. We are tripping over them here.

Ellen35 · 18/12/2020 17:44

Where are you tripping over them Venus? I'm a teacher and have never had a single matilda in my class in 13 years!

And don't like nickname Annie but love Belle as a nickname more so than Tilly
