We are expecting DS1 and have decided we want a one syllable boys name. Trying to avoid top 50 if possible. DH mentioned he worked with a Cass and I thought it was a cool nickname for a boy but would like a longer full name if possible. So far we have come up with;

Caspar
Caspian
Cassius
Cassander (wild card)

Caspar goes best with our surname which is three syllables but not sure I love any of the above options.

Can anyone think of any other boys names that would allow us to use the nn Cass?

My fave boys name is Cassady nn Cass, it’s a surname really but love it as a first name. What is the Cass your DH works with full name?

florascotia2 · 10/12/2020 10:14

Cassian
Casimir
Casey (I don't like)
or even Charles/Carl/ Charlie at a pinch

But nicknames don't have to be based on the precise spelling of 'proper names'. I know someone whose 'real' name begins with an M but whose childhood nickname began with a P.

I would go with Casper or Cassius. If you're never going to use the name you don't have to love it.

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2020 12:57

Caspar
Caspian
Cassius - best
Cassander - no

Casimir?

Cass on its own is ok but a bit Wayne & Coleen.

SaffyWall · 10/12/2020 12:59

I know a lovely boy called Casimer - everyone calls him Cass.

Katgolde · 10/12/2020 15:15

I like Caspar, and Cassius if pronounced Cass-ee-us not Cash-us.

Monkeytapper · 10/12/2020 15:28

Colleen Rooneys sons is called Cass

Chilldonaldchill · 10/12/2020 16:00

Cassius (cass-EEus) is lovely as is Caspar and Caspian.
I like Casimir as well.
Cass is a great NN though and in a way the longer versions don't matter as much if you'll rarely use them.

Cindie943811A · 10/12/2020 22:57

My preference is for Caspian.
Cassian could grow on me though.
Cascade?
Clovis
Castile
Casca. Roman like Cassius

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/12/2020 23:19

Cassius is nice - classical and kinda cool thanks to the Muhammad Ali link. Caspian is also lovely - both literary and nature vibes. Casper/Casper/Kasper etc is my least fave due to spelling issues. I'm not sure at all about Cassander - I should love it (similar to Alexander etc) but it's perhaps a bit feminine sounding?

Yennefer19 · 10/12/2020 23:26

Casey
Cash
Cassiel
Lucas

Lizadork · 11/12/2020 07:30

Cassidy
Castiel (supernatural)
Casey (works for Casey Affleck)
Casso
Caswyn
Casandro
Casiodoro

@IamnotwhouthinkIam I feel exactly the same about Cassander. Alexander is a strong contender for a middle name (not first name as I don't like Alex) Cassander has a similar sound and would give me the nn Cass but oddly is sounds too feminine, maybe because it sounds like Cassandra. Cassander also means light which is the same meaning as my DD so it would give them a link. It literally ticks all the boxes but I'm just not convinced.

Caspian gets my vote

TheGirlWhoLived · 14/12/2020 16:54

One of my good friends has a Cassidy, who goes by Cass, he is adorable and really suits it!

SingingSands · 14/12/2020 16:57

I know of a Cascus - Spanish name I think.

EssentialHummus · 14/12/2020 17:03

Cassian? I know a three year old one. Sorry to be rude, but is Cassander actually a name? It sounds like you have adapted Cassandra on the Alexander/Alexandra model.

EssentialHummus · 14/12/2020 17:07

As in, I know this is a thing with some Greek names, I’ve just never heard this one despite a, er, deep dive into Greek myths for dc2!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/12/2020 00:10

I think the problem is that Cassander is so very rarely used (in comparison to Cassandra), that unfortunately Cassander automatically sounds feminine because our brains will go to the nearest soundalike name we've heard of (Cassandra). If Cassia was more popular than it is (as a girls name), then people would likely feel that Cassian sounded feminine too.

Oh, and btw if the only reason you aren't keen on Alexander is the Alex nn (I feel the same), then I think you can get around this by choosing/using a different nn from the start (I like Xan personally). I do think you will need to pick one though - a lot of people will try to shorten 4 syllable names.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/12/2020 00:13

Caspar / Casper I like but it'll anyways be a friendly ghost to my
Caspian I love
Cassius I also really like
Cassander no

Cassian?
Castiel? (Cas-T-L not cas-steel)

june2007 · 15/12/2020 00:13

I like Caspian. But don,t really like Cass sounds too girly.

LittleTiger007 · 15/12/2020 10:42

I agree Cassanda sounds too much like Cassandra and he would be called it potentially to torment him.

I like Cassidy, Casey or Casper.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 15/12/2020 10:44

Cassius is my fave by far. I love this name and really want it for DS2 but it's been vetoed. I'm sneaking it in as a middle name

DrDetriment · 15/12/2020 10:45

I only know of female Casses, short for Cassandra. Why not just use the whole name like Caspian?

notarabbit · 15/12/2020 11:45

I actually attended school with a boy called Cassie who went by Cass and never thought anything of it although I do think it's a bit too feminine to use now. Cass feels quite girly.
