Which one for my baby girl?

Me personally I'd go with Violet only because I don't like the nn Rory for girl.

Nell96 · 03/12/2020 22:35

Violet (or Viola). Aurora is pretty, but it can be a bit of a mouthful to say, and I think the Disney princess vibe might put me off a little.

DramaAlpaca · 03/12/2020 23:11

Violet

Violet

Aurora suddenly very popular so lots of them. Violets was popular 10 years ago and there were loads then. I like both, only problem is violet gets shortened to Vi which puts me off.
I didnt know aurora was a disney name, just that its a dawn goddess. If your daughteris born at daybreak name her that! Violet Aurora is nice, (as long as your last name doesnt begin with a T!) But then so is Aurora Violet! Both lovely choices. It depends what sounds better with your last name and initials combination.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/12/2020 00:16

I'd choose Aurora over Violet, as I just see the word Violent (and the character Violet Beauregarde).

However if Viola was an option... Viola is beautiful, classical and elegant (and much less popular/trendy than Aurora or Violet.)

abbie777 · 04/12/2020 01:20

Seraphina is another option for us too, I don’t know anyone called Aurora or Violet, although Violet does seem much more popular as Aurora is trending downwards.

Violet

MikeUniformMike · 04/12/2020 08:57

Violet. Aurora and Seraphina are too much.

Bb90 · 04/12/2020 09:04

My favourite name for years was Aureya, i met the kindest little girl with that name and it stuck with me. Unfortunately my partner hates it and we're having a boy haha. I prefer Aurora to violet but i like the nickname Rory

Brighterthansunflowers · 04/12/2020 17:47

I really love Aurora

drumandthebass · 04/12/2020 21:10

Violet

alexdgr8 · 04/12/2020 21:15

not Aurora. sounds like an orange squash drink to me.
also would cause problems for anyone with a speech impediment.
Violet or Viola is better.
Seraphima is lovely. not much heard in this country. good choice.

mumtobabygilrl · 04/12/2020 21:18

My friends DD is aurora, I find it such a mouthful I really don't like it, violet is lovely - also like Beatrix or Bea it feels along those vibes, more classically lovely. Aurora feels more chav/wag to me personally - sorry

Whatsyourflava · 04/12/2020 21:35

I love both Aurora and Violet
Seraphina is far too frilly and complicated for my tastes @abbie777

CormoranStrike · 04/12/2020 21:36

Aurora nn Rory is sweet

MercyBodle · 04/12/2020 22:07

Both nice but I prefer Violet.

pilates · 04/12/2020 22:14

Violet

abbie777 · 04/12/2020 22:51

I love Aurora but does it sound chavvy? I hope not as I’m definitely not a chav haha.

Violet, you're turning violet, Violet!

Aila1994 · 05/12/2020 01:03

Really not a fan of Aurora, really is a bit of a mouthful to say. Much prefer Violet, Seraphina would inevitably be shortened to Sarah which is really a bit dated. So I’d definitely go for Violet!

MikeUniformMike · 05/12/2020 09:29

@abbie777, Aila1994 sums it up, it's a bit of a mouthful.

If you know anyone who can't say r, it will be Ovova or Owowa.

Oriana might be a better version.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 05/12/2020 09:34

You don’t even need a speech impediment to have an issue with Aurora, I live an Estuary English accent area and Aurora is absolutely mangled here. For that reason alone I’d go for Violet.
