Sorry I've never heard the name Liyana before. Is it pronounced Li-AHna? or Li-Yahna? If the former, I'd be more inclined to spell it Liana.

Liana Irene is lovely.

emmathedilemma · 03/12/2020 12:03

Liana is a rainforest vine, I'd stick to Liyana!
I guess it depends which name you prefer the most as that'll be the one you use on a daily basis. Does either sound better with your surname?

Liyana could be a name from a different culture.

I like Irene Liyana. It flows better. Irene is gorgeous.

I think your surname is crucial. eg Liyana Adamson is clumsy whereas Irene would go with most surnames (but maybe not one with an “eee” sound).

August20 · 03/12/2020 13:54

Irene is beautiful

EssentialHummus · 03/12/2020 13:56

Both are good, but I prefer the Liana spelling. I dimly remember it as the name of a Suzuki car, but it’s a very casual association!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/12/2020 14:47

How are you pronouncing Irene? If the original and pretty Greek "Eye - ree - nee", then I would go for Irene Liyana .

But Irene pronounced like "Eye- reen" is quite dated/old-fashioned in the UK, so if you're pronouncing it this way, I'd go for Liyana Irene.

( Incidentally I've never heard of Liyana, do you mean Liana? That's is the more common spelling - It's a lovely, unusual name).

stickygotstuck · 03/12/2020 14:50

Either is nice OP.

I just had to comment because I meat a 12 year old recently called almost the same - Liliana Irene. What are the chances??

stickygotstuck · 03/12/2020 14:50

*meat= met!

SionnachRua · 03/12/2020 16:48

Can't make this kind of call without knowing the surname - as a pp said it could really affect the overall sound. I'm not expecting you to tell us your surname btw, just can't really decide based on the names alone.

I used to know a Liana. Always thought it was a stunning name. I'm not as keen on Irene but I'd put money on it coming back into style soon.

Firebird83 · 03/12/2020 23:14

Irene is lovely.

HeadlessGummyBears · 04/12/2020 22:40

Both ways sound great but I prefer Liyana Irene. I guess it depends on the surname as well.

Having said that, I do prefer the spelling Leanna which was one of my primary school teacher’s names and I thought it was lovely then and now.

alisha556655 · 05/12/2020 18:40

Yeah, Irene is pronounced as “eye reen” and Liyana as “lee-yah-na.” I’m keeping the spelling Liyana as it is the spelling that’s commonly used in my culture. Partner’s surname is very similar to “leary”

@stickygotstuck That’s a crazy coincidence! Aww I love her name, it’s so pretty!

Irene Liyana Leary
Liyana Irene Leary

Both very nice combos in all honesty. I think I'd go for Liyana Irene as I prefer Liyana to Irene and may as well avoid intials ILL (though I appreciate that's not your surname).

Mouthfulofquiz · 05/12/2020 20:16

I love Irene (eye-reen) as it’s a family name for me. So pretty and makes me feel all happy when I hear the name. So, I’m biased and would use it as the first name.

HeadPain · 05/12/2020 21:05

Liyana Irene sounds better to me

fife28 · 08/12/2020 15:13

I love both combinations but Liyana Irene seems to flow better when talking I think.

As a side note, Irene was my Granny's name (short for Catherine) and she passed in October there, so it's particularly special to me and I think it's a beautiful name :)

Actually, I think I've changed my mind after noticing the surname! Irene Liyana Leary sounds better I think :)
