Looking for biblical names that don't have a bad association in the Bible. (Eg. no Delilah, Cain, Jezebel.) Thank you.

Came on to say Eve & Isaiah

peakotter · 02/12/2020 09:51

Most of the New Testament ones. The OT characters are generally more colourful and even the heroes of faith like David have major wrongdoings which are discussed in detail.

Google a list of NT names, and double check them to remove the likes of Herod and Judas!

Lots to choose from:

Interesting to see people suggest Eve. Adam and Eve might have slight negative connotation for some.

Most of the disciples and gospels (except Judas of course): Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, James, Thaddeus, Simon, Peter, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthias.

Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca/Rebekah, Anna, Hannah, Abigail, Lydia, Martha, Miriam, Ruth, Naomi, Sarah, Priscilla, Tabitha/Dorcas, Rachel, Susanna.

I have a Jude (not Judas!) and I also like Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. Not too fussed on Lucifer though 😂

Eve is a beautiful name but I do agree with you. I personally wouldn't use it.

Talitha (Ta-LEE-tha. Some pronounce it differently) is used as a name and I love it, but it wasn't a name in the Bible. Jesus says it during a miracle, he resurrects a little girl, it means "little girl" in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talitha_(given_name)

HeadPain · 05/12/2020 19:03

Depends if you consider that a bad association.

HeadPain · 05/12/2020 19:05

"Talitha is an uncommon feminine name meaning "little girl" in Aramaic, given in reference to the Biblical story in the Gospel of Mark in which Jesus Christ was said to have resurrected a dead child with the words "Talitha cumi" or "Talitha kum" or "Talitha koum," meaning "Little girl, I say to you, arise!""

AugustL · 06/12/2020 02:08

My cousin is considering Talitha (Ta-LEE-tha/Tal-EE-tha) I like it and where it comes from even though it wasn't a name it is used as one now. It's mentioned on this list of Biblical girls names wehavekids.com/baby-names/biblical-girl-names

Jeremiah, Isaac, Elijah, Isaiah, Ezra, Malachi, Joel, Jonah, I like them, couldn't tell you much about them though, they are all Old Testament.

Gabriel /Gabrielle /Gabriella

Emmanuel

Places... Bethany, Shiloh, Samaria...
