We have a DD1 called Niamh and while I love Irish names, our Irish link is tenuous so don't think we can get away with another. The names on our shortlist for DS1 are;

MAX
SEBASTIAN (although feel its too much with our surname)
MYLES
KIT
FLYNN
RUDY
HARRIS

I like them but not sure I love them. I am looking for any ideas for boys names that I may have missed. Surname is a three syllable name beginning with C.

This.

MAX - It will sound like Mac Scameron
SEBASTIAN - don't like it
MYLES - Prefer Miles. Will sound like Mile Sameron
KIT - don't like
FLYNN -- fine but there are so many Finns andFinleys
RUDY - ok
HARRIS. Harry Scameron.

your surname might not be Cameron. Only used as an example.

Of the names, Max is the one I like best, then Miles.

I love the name Niamh for a girl and it is on our list of girl's names.
From your list, I like Max and Sebastian.

Of your choices I like Kit (but only as a nn for Christopher), Max and Flynn. Flynn would be my choice with Niamh.

You could also consider a boys name that's traditionally popular in Ireland (but not obviously Irish) like Hugh, Michael or William (Liam)? Or crossover names like Sean, Connor, Declan, Aidan?

ILoveStickers · 01/12/2020 21:36

I would consider more popularised and/or Anglicised Irish names, tbh.

Rory
Aidan
Brendan
Oscar
Liam
Owen
Alisdair

But otherwise, I love Myles and Max, or perhaps Alexander. Kit might be a bit much if the name alliterates?

Champy87 · 02/12/2020 09:50

Sorry all I should have said our surname is Ch rather than a hard C. So alliteration with Kit or Max and Myles blending in, isn’t really an issue.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I have gone through the top 1000 and nothing else is jumping out much but if anyone can think of names I might have missed, that would be great.

I have a Niamh and her older brother is Sam(uel) his middle name is isaac.

Champy87 · 03/12/2020 22:37

Samuel would be a great idea if it wasn’t the name of my husband Grin I will add Isaac to the list though.

😂 😂 😂 Great names!!!

I’m sure I’m over thinking but we had a perfect girls name picked as it meant “Bright” like Niamh but was a very different name so it felt like they were different but had a connection. I’m sad I can’t find something similar for a boy.

I’ve looked at boys names that mean bright or boys names from mythology (Niamh is from Irish mythology) to see if any jumped out but the boys names seem a little more unusual and I’m not sure I’m brave enough.

Any ideas?
