Is Aurora too common now?

Heard some people say this, I knew it ranked #70 in 2019 (it’s actually gone down a place) and there were only 777 girls called Aurora in 2019 which I thought in the grand scheme of things wasn’t that many? I’m from Newcastle and it doesn’t rank in the top 100 in the north east, I’ve never heard anyone mention it in my area or heard it being used. Thoughts?

How about the French version Aurore

There's no such thing as too common imo, there's only too common FOR YOU. Everyone will have a different tolerance for popularity. Personally I'm super sensitive to it and the most common girls' name we're considering is currently around 400 in the charts, and I'm even concerned about that! 😆

But Aurora is lovely and if, as you say, you're not in a "pocket" where it's popular, and you don't know any, what's the problem? I wouldn't pick a name you love less just because it's lower on the charts, that's madness!

I don't think it's that common. Even the top names there aren't actually that many of IME. Dd is 5 and has no Emilys, no Olivias, no Arthurs, no Henrys, no Williams, no Amelias in her entire year group. We do have some incredibly rare names in her year group instead. So you may pick a top ten name even and still never have one in your dd's class.

I'm in County Durham and know quite a few. I work in a village with a large travelling community and it's very popular in those families.

Personally I think any name associated with Disney or films or pop music becomes trashy eg miley, Ariana, Aurora, Pocahontas etc

I think it's cute on a baby or for a girl but I would hate that to be my name as an adult, sorry. Just because of the twee Disney link.

We’re not naming her after the Disney link, (trust me I hate that too) We’re naming her after the Roman Godess Of Dawn, we went to Rome earlier this year and we found it when we were looking at all the mythology🙂.

You hear Aurora, you think Disney.

Same as if you wanted to call her Minnie after your much loved great aunt - people would still think Mouse.
