Boys name suggestion - help!

We had the name all set but now mil has ruined it after my dp told her what it was, why did you do that DP Hmm? It sounds very petty but she claimed she came up with it first, part of me knows this is a silly reason to abandon a name i previously loved but I cant seem to get over it and i have subconsciously disconnected it from the baby. So i really need your help to find a new name.
He will be brother to Jemima if that helps... and I like the following names so far:
Orlando - big no from DP
Hamish - another big no from DP
Rory
Lucas

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I prefer Rex - could suit any age. Milo sounds a bit "little boy" to me, and very much of this generation.

I know two little boys called Rex, both under 5, so not too 'out there'.

Milo - getting popular, I like the sound, but it will forever be a dog's name to me. Plenty of people disagree though, so you can probably just ignore me! I much prefer Miles, which is currently top of my list for boys.

How about -

Leo
Cosmo
Otto
Theo
Rio
Arlo

LemonsYellow · 20/11/2020 12:12

Not keen on Milo. It falls into the trendy but dated category to me - one of the Tweenies characters from 20 years ago. Miles is a much stronger name. Rex is a bit “dog”. Your first list is better.

YoniAndGuy · 20/11/2020 12:13

Hmm not as much a fan of Milo or Rex as Rory.

Milo is a bit overused now

Rex - eek, it's a bit perma-tanned Lothario on a cruise ship for me.

But really, it's just that Rory is SO much better.

easy to spell
classic

I imagine a Rory as strong, kind, outdoorsy. It's a real rufty-tufty name.

sundowners · 20/11/2020 12:35

Also think Rex is a fabulous suggestion its strong, a bit cheeky but cool- think of the charming movie star Rex Harrison.
Love:
Rex
Fraser
Rory
Laurence
Lewis

LemonsYellow · 20/11/2020 12:44

Rex Harrison’s real name was Reginald.

Trauchled · 20/11/2020 12:51

Finlay
Milo
Ellis
Henry
Marcus
Cameron
Fraser
Calum
Matthew

sundowners · 20/11/2020 12:58

LemonsYellow ok....Confused not really my point though. He was known by Rex, chose to be known for Rex and suits the name perfectly IMO.

FluffyEggsontoast · 20/11/2020 13:35

Love both Rex and Milo! And Miles too. How about Huxley, Axel or Dexter if you like the X in Rex

Spender? Casper?

@YoniAndGuy I respect your opinion but surprised you think 'Milo' is overused yet dont say the same about Rory. Looking at official stats- Nearly three times the number of babies called Rory in 2019 than there were babies called Milo. Rory has boomed 100 places up the charts in the last 10 years and is now top 50 and still rising.

Jemima is number 273 and has hovered around that level for the past 25 years so if I were you @Elwynne I'd be tempted to pick another name outside the top 100

Rory is totally 'Meh' to me now. Rory, Ronnie, Roman... so many similar sounding names in the top 100.

MikeUniformMike · 20/11/2020 14:23

Do any of you like Milo? Or Rex? Or are they too out there?
I don't like Milo, it's the name of a milky drink, but I like Rex. Neither are 'too out there', and are probably way more popular than you think.

Rory seems to be very popular on here, along with Roman, Rowan and Reuben and other R names. Lucas is very popular now.

I really like Hamish. Alistair is nice if you fancy a scottish name.

YoniAndGuy · 20/11/2020 16:00

@FluffyEggsontoast, I see what you mean! Rory is getting popular. I meant more that Milo’s been a popular name for so long now that to me it feels like it’s had its day, done to death if you will. I’d put it in with Noah - 10-15 years ago these were the new cool names, now they feel stale.

mintich · 20/11/2020 16:02

I love Rory and Hamish!
Dont worry I'd feel the same as you and abandon the first name!

OneFootintheRave · 20/11/2020 16:16

Lorcan

finallychangedmyusername · 20/11/2020 21:14

I really like Lucas, Rex and Rory. Some other suggestions I think work wonderfully with Jemima.

Jemima and...

Rupert (love the literary link!)
Tobias
Daniel
Thomas
Edward
Zachary
Barnaby
Elliot/Elliott
Christopher
Arthur
Nicholas
Oliver
Samuel
William
