Nice for a baby or too middle aged/too much of a mouthful?

Love it, would have been on the short list if I had had a DD.

TeenPlusTwenties · 19/11/2020 15:55

Timeless, classic, lovely.

I’m biased because I have an Elizabeth. She goes by LizzyBee or Liza. She hates her full name and plans to change it to a shortening as soon as she is able though! 😂

Absolutely awful. Ugly and frumpy. But as a caveat I hate all name MN loves Grin
And I like names MN loath.
So maybe I have appalling taste! I don't like old fashioned frumpy names and Liz is a horrible sound

Lovely classic name. My nana was called Elizabeth but nn Lil. I didn't actually know her name was Elizabeth until after she died 🙈

YoniAndGuy · 19/11/2020 17:33

Timeless blah blah but, I just think it's stuffy, boring and Liz is terrible.

bridgetreilly · 19/11/2020 17:40

You are naming a person, not just a baby.

I love Betty or Betsy as nicknames. Beth is also sweet.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/11/2020 17:49

Ultimate classic name - actually it's the only girls name that has never left the top 100 since we started keeping records hundreds of years ago (it was in the top 50 women's names in the 1300's, the 1700's and the 1900's!). In fact it's only just left the top 50 in the last couple of years.

It has never been unpopular so I don't understand how anyone can say Elizabeth is old-fashioned or fusty. I also don't understand how anyone could call it boring - I counted nearly two dozen nicknames/variations for Elizabeth (so it's also the name with the most variety - she can make it her own if she wants to). I think it's the safest/ most unproblematic girls choice a parent could make.

That's why it's so boring!! Grin

My all time favourite name! I especially love Libby as the nickname

If you’re worried Elizabeth is too much of a big name for a little baby, there’s so many options to shorten it

RaraRachael · 19/11/2020 20:34

I like it - my baby was born on the queen's birthday so was going to be called Elizabeth except that it turned out to be a boy Grin

It would nice to be kept as Elizabeth instead of the obsession with nicknames and calling it Beth or Lizzy etc
