It's a n
Norse naming meaning "he who fights alone" pronounced Ane save without the s)- hair-yar.
What do you think? Looking for something strong and unusual.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JemimaTiggywinkle · 16/11/2020 14:25

This isn’t a name btw... it’s just a word. What about warrior, pillager or ransacker?

happylittlechick · 16/11/2020 14:30

Well it's not a name.
It's difficult to pronounce or spell
The meaning is not good.

You are naming a person who has to live with this for the rest of their life.

FourPlatinumRings · 16/11/2020 14:32

So, it's the Norse word for a warrior who died in battle?

An odd choice, OP.

pasanda · 16/11/2020 14:32

Absolutely bloody ridiculous to even consider it. Who cares what it (apparently) means. Nobody gives a shit.

LuckyAmy1986 · 16/11/2020 14:34

Would you like this name? Would you like the inevitable attention/possibly teasing it would bring? And would you cope with a lifetime of having to spell it out or correct people pronouncing it wrong?

If no to any of these, then don't do it to your child!

Somethingvague · 16/11/2020 14:36

I read this as 'in her jar'. Lots of other lovely norse/Scandinavian names out there.

badacorn · 16/11/2020 14:37

That’s a lifetime of having to explain her name to everyone she meets, don’t do it

Flaunch · 16/11/2020 14:38

Even you can’t pronounce it.

elenacampana · 16/11/2020 14:39

Not a fan OP. It may be the most horrible name I’ve ever seen floated here.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/11/2020 14:42

No no no. I read it as In-her-jar. Enya would be a good alternative. I think it means fire.

turbonerd · 16/11/2020 14:42

Havent read full thread. Am Scandinavian. Will strongly advice against calling anyone Einherjar. Besides: it has the masculine ending. I would recommend Norna or Valkyrie instead. They are female figures in Norse Mythology.Halloween Smile

simbobs · 16/11/2020 14:43

Kids tend to want to fit in rather than stand out. A name like this would be difficult for even the strongest character to carry off. Give her a name she can manage through childhood and this as a middle name if you are so keen on it. That way she can use it when she is older if she wants to.

KittyMcKitty · 16/11/2020 14:44

@ZadieZadie

If it takes three messages to explain how to say it, it's not going to work.
Was just about to write this!

No name should be this complicated.

NotStayingIn · 16/11/2020 14:47

I'm getting In-Her-Jar when looking at that.

If you live in a non-English speaking country it might possibly work, but its a no from me too, sorry.

thanksgivingchi · 16/11/2020 14:47

I'm not convinced that a male name that is difficult to pronounce and spell is a good name for a girl.

ghislaine · 16/11/2020 14:49

Bouddica or Boudicea? Much easier to pronounce and has clear relevance to Britain (assuming she will grow up here).

Hamm87 · 16/11/2020 14:50

Sorry I read it as in her jar

florascotia2 · 16/11/2020 14:52

It's a plural noun - a collective term for a band of male warriors.

The singular is Einheri.

They are dead warriors who drink in Valhalla. And while I expect some Viking women did fight, these living-dead warriors are male. And served drink by females: Valkyries.

The Einherjar are mentioned in several Sagas.

Here is how they are described on a website all about Scandinavian names:

PattyPan · 16/11/2020 14:54

Definitely not. Not a positive meaning and very weird if you don’t have the cultural connection. What about Freya, Agneta, Astrid, Hilda?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 16/11/2020 14:54

Just no. Poor child.

PattyPan · 16/11/2020 14:55

Or Edda?

IndieTara · 16/11/2020 14:58

God no op don't saddle your child with that

Laquila · 16/11/2020 14:59

Edda and Freya are lovely. I also like Gunnhild but it's a bit more unusual over here.

Laquila · 16/11/2020 14:59

Also you might like Hedda or Hester?

VettiyaIruken · 16/11/2020 15:02

I wouldn't.
I tried saying it aloud and really struggled! More importantly, it isn't a nice sound and the meaning is very depressing.
