Hi

We were originally thinking Cara as a name for our baby daughter who is due any day but I think we have changed our mind!...

We are now thinking Fiadh. What do you think? We are living in Uk!

Has anybody got some Irish name suggestions for a middle name to go with Fiadh please?

Thank you,

I love Fiadh. Much prefer it to Cara.

I think you need to avoid a name ending in an "a" for a second name. How about Aisling, aoibhín, maedbh, sadhbh, Roisín, Sinéad, Siobhán?

GoogleWhacked · 15/11/2020 19:39

Love Fiadh, beautiful name 😍
Personally I'd pair it with a non Irish name; Fiadh Marie, Fiadh Rose...... something that starts with a consonant so the names don't run together

SionnachRua · 15/11/2020 19:48

I agree with using something that starts with a consonant as the middle name.

Fiadh is nice. I do love Irish names but I'm not sure I like a lot of them as middle names for Fiadh tbh, a lot of the sounds seem samey. What about Fiadh Grace, Fiadh Sinead, Fiadh Roisín, Fiadh Maeve, Fiadh Bridget, Fiadh Sadhbh? Obviously Grace is not Irish but was the first thing into my head.

HarrietM87 · 15/11/2020 19:53

Fiadh is having a massive moment right now - it’s really popular in NI and seems to have come out of nowhere.

I don’t like it personally as to me it sounds like Thea in an Essex accent. I much prefer the “older” Irish names like Sinead, Aoife, Ciara etc. Agree with pps that if you choose Fiadh then a non-Irish middle is nicer - Mary, Catherine, Anne maybe.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 15/11/2020 20:03

I’m near Belfast and it seems like every other baby at the moment is called Fiadh.

I have a Sadhbh, which I still love.

RomillyTheRabbit · 15/11/2020 20:40

I love Fiadh. I do see how it could be confused with Thea if you live where I do (in the saaaff east Grin).

How about Roise or Roisin? I don't hear that often. I also love Ailis and Clodagh.

Fiadh Roisin is nice I think, if you're set on that as a first name.

Aoife is nice, but I know a few in England. It seems to be the name of choice for Irish parents having babies in England!

DramaAlpaca · 15/11/2020 20:46

I really love Fiadh but we're tripping over them these days in Ireland. It's this generation's Aoife.

The only thing I'd say is can you cope with British (particularly English) people calling her 'Fear'?

Because they will say it that way, and I don't know about you but it would drive me nuts.

Firebird83 · 16/11/2020 00:46

A friend of mine (Irish living in England) has a Fiadh Catherine

HappyBumbleBee · 16/11/2020 02:43

Niamh Saoirse Caoimhe Merrin (not sure on the spelling of that one)

Mayzee · 16/11/2020 07:29

Like Fiadh...maybe Fiadh Mairead

Other first name suggestions;
Síofra,
Doireann
Aoibhinn
Eimear
Aine
Muireann

Hi

Thank you all for the suggestions. They have been really helpful.

I think I am really like Fiadh Maeve or Fiadh Rose (although not Irish)

I didn't realise Fiadh is currently so popular in Ireland.

I think shorter middle names possibily one syllable work well too. I think the pronunciation and the risk the name may sound like fear is something we are going to risk and hopefully correct people along the way!

The only other name we really liked is Cara. i feel it is a really sweet name but I want a more irish sounding name and DH does not like the CARRAGH spelling. I do hope we are making the right decision!

if anyone has any more suggestions/ comments I really appreciate it.

Waiting patiently for her arrival! #10 days overdue!!

Siún
Aoibhín
Muireann

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck!!!

Cotton55 · 16/11/2020 11:03

Sorry I just re read your last post so disregard Aoibhín and Muireann as they're 2 syllables long!

RomillyTheRabbit · 16/11/2020 11:57

Fiadh is absolutely lovely op. I really think that's a great choice. Clearly Irish, but easy to pronounce in an English accent too. Good luck! I went 13 days overdue with my DC. The last week wait is the worst!

I like Fiadh Maeve or Fiadh Rose. I slightly prefer Fiadh Maeve.

PostmanSpaff · 16/11/2020 12:25

Cara is the correct Irish spelling no gh required if you could get your DH on board with it spelled like that?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/11/2020 12:35

Caiomhe
Aoife
Aibhlinn
Sapirse

resm · 16/11/2020 16:15

I live in Ireland and have heard of at least 3 children given Fiadh Rose in the last 2 years.

copperoliver · 16/11/2020 17:59

Fladh, cara, Aiofe. Roisin, Saoirse, Niamh. Shauna, Kayleigh, Emer, Caragh, Aiobh, Riona. X
