Could I use this for a child raised in England to English parents or would that be weird?

I also like Carina but not as much.

I don't see why not. People will get the hang of it being your daughters' name and get on with it.

Ellmau · 15/11/2020 15:55

Calina is an independent name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/11/2020 23:51

Assume it's pronounced "Kah - Lee- Nah"? It's unusual, so people may not know how to spell it just from the sound (eg C or K, one L or double LL) but there are lots of names where there are different spellings so this might not be a big problem.

There are similar names with the same sounds (eg. Katrina, Catalina, Selina etc) more commonly used, so Kalina shouldn't stand out as particularly difficult/teasable.

CrazyOldBagLady · 15/11/2020 23:54

I've never heard of it, but people call their kids all sorts these days so I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid.

Personally I think Carina/Karina is much nicer, but it's not my baby so...

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/11/2020 00:07

I like it. And a nn Kallie

cloverbug · 16/11/2020 00:10

If it's pronounced the way it looks (Ka-lee-na) then absolutely. What a beautiful name!

thanksgivingchi · 16/11/2020 00:34

I agree with @cloverbug.
I can't see any reason it would be an a problem.

Sausagedog1 · 16/11/2020 09:50

I really like it, nickname Kally is lovely too. Great choice!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/11/2020 12:29

I like its lovely. Uncommon but people would easily guess how to pronounce it. Other names suggested are lovely too.

PattyPan · 16/11/2020 15:29

It’s okay, I don’t love it but I don’t dislike it. I would assume you were Russian though - reminds me of kalinka

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 16/11/2020 15:36

Lovely name

WildBluebell · 17/11/2020 17:39

Kalina is the name of this berry in Russian: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viburnum

"In Russia the Viburnum fruit is called kalina (калина) and is considered a national symbol."

So I guess you'll get questions from Russian speakers about why you picked this name :) But if you don't mind that, I don't see why you can't use it.
