Pronounced like eye-zuh/zah. I really like this name. What do you think of it? For a baby girl Smile

I like the sound (though I imagined it was for a boy initially, perhaps a shortening of Isaac).

But the spelling looks a bit clunky to me.

I love Ayesha, which has a similar sound.

Depends where you are, you couldn't call a kid Isa if they ever intend on moving to Scotland. Search on YouTube or Google for 'Isa Still Game', she's a well loved character in a Scottish show, but is a wee old woman who's a gabshite.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 14/11/2020 07:29

I think you might get people thinking it's pronounced Izzer., like the start of Isabel. That's what I thought.

It sounds too like ISA (the money thing) for me too.

lilfoxfur · 14/11/2020 07:34

No from me. It looks like the start of Isabelle.

Isabelle or Liza would be better

florascotia2 · 14/11/2020 09:19

What valleygirl said. Old-fashioned shortening for Isobel. In Scotland you will also find (currently unfashionable) names Ina (Eye-nah) and Mima (My-mah). The first is usually short for names ending in '-ina', and the second is short for Jemima.

Chilldonaldchill · 14/11/2020 09:30

I assumed you were thinking of it as a shortening of Isabel. I would automatically have pronounced it Izza.

EssentialHummus · 14/11/2020 09:34

I’d think you were really into tax efficient savings.

VenusClapTrap · 14/11/2020 09:57

I couldn’t work out why it made me think of fizzy drinks, then I realised - Tizer.

I once worked with a Faiza and I thought that was quite a nice name.

BlenheimOrange · 14/11/2020 10:02

Nice as a nickname for an Eliza

Poppyolive90 · 14/11/2020 10:06

Makes me think of someone saying ‘it’s a’ lazily...Iza girl

BahHumbygge · 14/11/2020 10:09

Izal = that scrunchy harsh medicated toilet paper like tracing paper from years back.

AlexaShutUp · 14/11/2020 10:12

Sorry, I don't like it.

JazzTheDog · 14/11/2020 10:18

We're currently considering Isa (eye-sah) for our puppy in honour of the fabulous Isa in Still Game. It's gonna be that or Beldie (bell-dee) probably!

Merename · 14/11/2020 10:21

I’d spell it Isa and to me the pronunciation of that would be I-za. But like the sound!

Fleetwoodmacs · 14/11/2020 10:21

I do quite like it, but I'm Scottish so it's definitely Isa from Still Game!

"The people huv tae know!!!"😂

If you're not in Scotland it's fine though

Starlightstarbright1 · 14/11/2020 10:24

I read it as Izzer as short fir Isabel too.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 14/11/2020 10:24

I like it. I have lived in Glasgow my whole life, have watched Still Game but didnt think of the character from that at all

Love51 · 14/11/2020 10:25

It is a Polish short form for Izabela. Iz-a.
So I would not naturally pronounce it Eye-suh. If you live in a heavily eastern European area adults would naturally mispronounce it.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/11/2020 10:28

Both my grans were called Isa, short for Isabella, so to me the name conjures up my wee Fifer grans!

ForthPlace · 14/11/2020 10:38

Me too Apollo - a great aunt, beautifully fabulous Scottish lady 'Aunty Isa' - I love it.

Squeakerfoot · 14/11/2020 10:44

I read it as Izza, or Isa (kind of pronounced ee-za ) which is a French shortening for Isabelle.

XmasIsSoon · 14/11/2020 10:45

Nope

YoniAndGuy · 14/11/2020 11:22

Sounds like a cleaning product.

IZA- Say Goodbye To Skidmarks!

bridgetreilly · 14/11/2020 12:17

Isa is sometimes short for Isaac, so I would assume it was a boy.
