Please can I have opinions on this name? I like Lucy too but partner is not being swayed on that one because his mum has a dog called Lucy.

I love the name Elsie, it was the name I picked for ds ( but he was a boy), and my friends daughter is called this. If you like Lucy what about lucile.

JamaicanJamboree · 13/11/2020 08:51

I like the name Elsie.

namechange34 · 13/11/2020 08:53

Definitely having a revival. Both my 5 and 9 year olds have Elsies in their class. It was my grandma's name so I enjoy hearing it as it makes me think of her.

emmathedilemma · 13/11/2020 09:50

I really like it.

KiposWonderbeasts · 13/11/2020 09:50

Love it.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 13/11/2020 09:51

I think it's lovely but know a few so if you want something more unusual it might not be the one.

elfran · 13/11/2020 10:01

We have some good friends who had an Elsie last year, and also know one in her 60s. Tbh it's not my favourite of the "old lady revival" names (a category I really like, generally) - I think it's the ie ending, which always feels more nickname-like to me and a bit lightweight for a given name. I prefer Elsa, though Frozen went and ruined that for me!

DepuisToujours · 13/11/2020 10:15

I like it.

If you're open to suggestions, I also adore Elspeth. Could be shortened to Elsie. It is the Scottish version of Elizabeth, (I think), so you could also shorten to Eliza, Betsy, Betty etc, at a push. Eliza definitely would be fine imo. Betsy and Betty maybe a stretch, but not way out there.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/11/2020 10:17

We have an Elspeth who we originally planned to nickname Elsie but it just didn't suit her, sounded too twee. It's a lovely name but may not suit all personalities

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/11/2020 10:18

I really love Lucy though and would consider it for a 3rd daughter

merlotormalbec · 13/11/2020 17:01

Love this name

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2020 19:18

Not keen on Elsie but I like Elsa. I also like Bess.

Lucy is much nicer IMO.

Musicalmistress · 13/11/2020 19:41

My niece is Elsie, we love it!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/11/2020 20:05

I love Elsie as a nn for Elisabeth, less likely to date. Not so keen on Lucy but that's personal taste.

Grizzlypanda · 13/11/2020 20:09

It’s nice for a baby but a bit cutesy for me.

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2020 00:23

Lucy is much, much nicer.

MercyBodle · 14/11/2020 05:29

I like it.

Whatsyourflava · 14/11/2020 08:51

Love Elsie
Also love Lucy too though

Eliza?

prettybird · 14/11/2020 08:59

If ds had been a dd, one of the names we'd chosen was Elsa (after my granny). Hadn't decided whether first or middle - we were waiting until we saw what she "looked" like Smile

Constance1 · 14/11/2020 09:22

It's a nice name for a little girl, but for an adult it's a bit cutesy - is it short for something? I guess it could be a nickname for Elizabeth.

Zolaanna · 14/11/2020 10:32

Like it :)

I prefer Elise but completely different vibe

pumpkinpie01 · 14/11/2020 10:35

I prefer changing the letters round to Elise , bit unusual but quite classy.
