-son names and last name

Tellmeastory1 · 12/11/2020 19:50

Am going through a list of favourite boys names and it turns out that all of them end in son.

Jameson
Jackson
Hudson
Grayson
Wilson.

However our last name is Sullivan and i worry that these names are a bit clunky together. Am I overthinking this or do they not work together?

If not any suggestions?

TIA

overthinking IMO

TeddyBeans · 12/11/2020 19:57

Imo the only name to go with Sullivan is James P.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/11/2020 20:04

Hmm, no I don't think a first name ending in -son flows well with a surname ending in -van , they sound too similar, sorry OP.

Maybe look at other "surname" type names that end in a different sound - such as Maxwell, Huxley, Rafferty, Finley, Willoughby etc ? (or take the "son" off and stick with James, Jack, Gray etc)

No, I don't think any of them go with your surname.

Liliatori · 12/11/2020 20:30

I personally think they are bit clunky it’s just a tongue twister. Do you like names with a surname vibe? You could go for a surname name like Jameson but doesn’t have the ‘son’ ending to avoid clunky vibe.
Suggestions...
Marlow Sullivan
Rowan Sullivan
Roman Sullivan
Chase Sullivan
Brody Sullivan
Porter Sullivan
Finley Sullivan
Carter Sullivan
Cody Sullivan

ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 12/11/2020 20:32

No I don’t think those do go.

Hunter Sullivan

Elsaandanna · 12/11/2020 20:32

Why not just James or Jack?

But you are right anything ending in 'son' is not a good match.

Savourysenorita · 12/11/2020 20:33

Oh no not the 'surname' names 🙈

Savourysenorita · 12/11/2020 20:34

Take off the 'son' and problem solved Wink

Antonin · 12/11/2020 20:58

I don’t see a problem. The names balance out. It’s a case of what appeals to you. It’s not the fact that the names end in son so much as the length of the names eg Alexander Sullivan or Benjamin Sullivan would to many people seem too much of a mouthful.
So basically the choice is to go with your favourite name or choose a shorter name

Mousepad20 · 12/11/2020 22:26

They are a bit awkward, especially Hudson - a bit tongue-twisty.

Not a particular fan of your list, so not got much to suggest. Mitchell?

Enko · 12/11/2020 23:10

I honestly think they all go fine with your surname not specifically names I would pick myself but if I was introduced to a Jameson Sullivan I would not bat an eyelid over it.

YoniAndGuy · 14/11/2020 11:31

No, none of them sound good really. Sounds like an estate agents! - it’s just two surnames put together.

But, I dislike -son names as first names anyway- all hard, impersonal, sound too much like places or firms.

Bearcub01 · 15/11/2020 08:22

I definitely think James Sullivan sounds better than Jameson. Hudson sounds ok too.

I’m having the same issue as our surname is Milligan and one of the names we have so far is Carson so Carson Milligan, does that go? I think I prefer a short name for the surname.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/11/2020 08:24

Too clunky.

ShipOfTheseus · 15/11/2020 08:25

They don’t go, and sound clunky.

cloverbug · 15/11/2020 12:38

I think Jameson is a little bit as they both have 3 syllables, they almost rhyme but it definitely doesn't sound awful. I love Grayson!
