Due dates put me sometime around Christmas, so you'll see a theme below...

We are a bit on the hippyish-side with names, and with our first two children have gone for 'old fashioned main-stream first name followed by slightly 'out there' middle name' and then used the middle name as a family/pet name, and the grown up name for official stuff.

This is my list - my husbands suggestions are more unusual, he is very keen on Allegra/Elektra/Sukie, so do feel free to comment on those too Smile

Star
Lucy
Sophie
Saffron
Jessica
Harriet
Susan
Natalia
Winter

Thoughts? And extra suggestions? X

Allegra - One of my favourite girls name
Elektra - Don’t like
Sukie - ok for a middle name
Star - don’t like. Ok as a middle name only
Lucy - boring
Sophie - boring
Saffron - Like
Jessica - boring
Harriet - ok, more “posh” than hippy though
Susan - hell no (Su-bo)
Natalia - LOVE
Winter - only for a middle name

How about

Sierra
Noelle
Robin/Robyn
Nova
Lucille/Lucinda/Lucia
Estelle/Estella/Stella
Celeste
Thalia
I love the suggestion of Cosima too

Fromthebirdsnest · 12/11/2020 14:16

Sophie is very likely to be my baby name (I'm due a girl in april) so I obviously like that ! I love Lucy too, what about Lucy robin? It's festive but not in a over the top way , winter makes me think winter is coming (game of thrones ) it's very trendy and will date , I met a little girl called Suzy (susan) about a year ago she was adorable and I thought I was lovely , I'm not so keen on suki , or allegra , Natalia is ok but I just don't like Nat as it doesn't sound nice at all and it will be shorted to that , Harriet shortened to Hattie is very lovely, saffron nm saffy is ok but feel a bit trendy , I don't like star but do like Stella or seren .. X congratulations x

AuntLucy · 12/11/2020 16:16

I'm undecided on Stella. It fits with the Christmassy theme, and when I was a teenager myself I thought it the MOST glamorous name EVER, but now it seems a bit over-popular and I see its at 16 in the name charts, which puts me off a bit (Jessica, Sophie and Lucy also fail the 'top 20' test interestedly - I didn't think I was so mainstream!)

If I can persuade DH to keep an open mind on Natalia, we'd be using Nattie or Tia as short-forms, not Nat (which In my head can only be said in a cockney accent as in 'y'alrite, Nat?').

What about Juniper maybe? Is it a bit Christmassy?

Which country are you in? In the UK, Stella is ranked 373rd, making it less popular than Natalia at 192nd. I would imagine different countries have different Christmas associations.

AuntLucy · 12/11/2020 16:42

@Phphion UK. Maybe I looked on an outdated list then...

Ah! I looked here, and this is names most popular with Telegraph readers. Figures 😂

The horror! (although there are only 3 Stella's).

You can check the official popularity here:

My baby girl is called STARR I love it but decided on adding an extra R as otherwise it spells rats backwards lol

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/11/2020 17:50

Star - a guilty pleasure (but probably only useable as a middle name).
Lucy - fine, just not my taste (feels a bit sweet)
Sophie- lovely but popular
Saffron - okay , maybe a bit hippy for me (and I dislike the nn Saffy)
Jessica - nice enough, Shakespearean classic, but perhaps a little 80's.
Harriet - fine, just not my taste (feels a bit jolly hockey sticks)
Susan - too dated, Susannah is lovely though.
Natalia - gorgeous, exotic and elegant
Winter - pretty but a little unusual (would make a great middle name)
Allegra - beautiful and unusual (but still useable I think)
Elektra - lovely but too much for me because of the myth
Sukie - very cutesy, I love it as a nn for Susannah

Susannah (nn Sukie) would be my choice, but Natalia and Allegra would be lovely, more exotic choices.

HeadlessGummyBears · 12/11/2020 19:51

I think you should keep Winter as a middle name. I quite like Ivy Winter but I also agree with some of the previous posters and I think Sukie Winter sounds great.

Other “mainstream” names can go quite well with Winter so that can be in keeping with how you went with naming your other kids.

Skyla2005 · 12/11/2020 19:59

Saskia is nice seems to fit your theme

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/11/2020 20:12

Theres also Talia for Natalia @AuntLucy

Star - nice
Lucy - nice but a little dull
Sophie- nice but super common
Saffron - lovely
Jessica - again quite basic but I know some lovely jessicas
Harriet - always sounds posh to me (not necess a bad thing)
Natalia -i like it, lots of nicknames
Winter - love this

From your husband, I like Suki.

Krazynights34 · 12/11/2020 20:12

I like Natalia a lot!
I don’t think much of Star or Saffron or Sophie (no real reason).

I had a Christmas baby called Grace (I know it is very popular- it wasn’t so much when I had her)

Other suggestions..(of a winter/celestial/Christmas theme)

Noelle
Natasha
Celeste
Joy
Angelene
Alaska
Celestine

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/11/2020 20:13

@Skyla2005 love Saskia

Like others I feel susan is dated but Susanne or Susannah could work well

MsTSwift · 12/11/2020 20:17

I like them all except Sophie which is super dull and over used

Liliatori · 12/11/2020 20:37

I think if I was to have a Christmas baby I would want to embrace Christmas and give my baby a super Christmassy name 🎅🏽☃️

From your list the Christmassy names I like are Winter & Natalia. I think Winter Allegra would be really sweet.
Other wintry names...
Belle
Noelle
Holly
Ivy
Eve (like Christmas Eve)
Angelica/Angeline/Angelina/Evangeline
Emmanuelle
Gabrielle
Nova

Ingridla · 12/11/2020 21:40

Star, Winter and Natalia are all beautiful names.

GiGi18 · 12/11/2020 22:25

How about Noella?

Sosages · 12/11/2020 22:27

I have an Electra and I love her name still. She often gets Electron as a pet name at the moment! I knew it was a marmite name when I picked it but have had lovely comments in real life and only one person has ever mentioned the myth (I was never bothered about the association).

YoungScrappyHungry · 12/11/2020 22:36

@SenCallec my name is Polly. OP please don't name your child Sukie. That bitch, coming over here, ruining my eggs.

Sosages · 13/11/2020 07:50

Meant to add I also really like Suki (prefer it without the e), Winter, Star, Saffron and Natalia!

sundowners · 13/11/2020 10:51

Jessica & Sophie are gorgeous, by far the best from that list IMO.

BlueChampagne · 13/11/2020 12:41

Here's a subtle Christmas one: Clea

As in "It came upon a midnight clear" ...

CaffiSaliMali · 13/11/2020 17:36

Star - middle name territory
Lucy - lovely
Sophie - lovely
Saffron - I like it, unusual but not overly so
Jessica - fine
Harriet - fine
Susan - Susanna/h is nicer
Natalia - lovely
Winter - middle name territory

Natalia is gorgeous OP. Natalie is lovely too. It's unusual but not unknown.

Some other names you may like:
Cassia
Sabrina
Serena
Lyra
