Well it's the name of our QLD state premier, although she has a very long surname to go with it.

No one comments anything negative it positive. It's fine as long as it suits your surname.

Beautiful, and not too much at all. Lots of lovely nn options too - I love Anya/Ania, Taisy, Tansy, Ness, Tess.

Ellmau · 11/11/2020 09:40

Beautiful name.

micc · 11/11/2020 12:13

I love it!! When I was younger I always wanted to call my daughter Anastasia, and I would of in a heart beat. The only thing that held me back was the nick name Annie. I really dont like the name Annie.. I wanted her to be an Anya for a nickname and we even considered just Anya. It's a beautiful name OP.

user1493494961 · 11/11/2020 18:40

It's a nice name, as long as it isn't shortened to Stacey, which is awful.

Sosages · 13/11/2020 09:17

LOVE it!

DepuisToujours · 13/11/2020 10:22

It's ok. I don't like the traditional shortening Nastya so much, but in the UK, I imagine Anna / Annie / Anya / Stacey would be more likely.

I prefer Anita, which has a similar feel to me and similar shortening options, but is a bit more subtle.

Flappingflamingo · 13/11/2020 10:47

I know an 11year old known as ani, she does have a Russian mother.

ImaSababa · 13/11/2020 12:33

@liverpool1981

Completely love it from my childhood reading a book about Anastasia krumpnik ( I think that's the proper spelling)
I read these books too! I loved Anastasia so much I convinced my mum to buy me some enormous glasses.
VenusClapTrap · 13/11/2020 21:18

Its a beautiful name but not very practical. Like wearing a ball gown to Tesco.

Chilldonaldchill · 14/11/2020 23:01

I don't think it feels a particularly "big" name. I see it as much less frilly and OTT than, for example, Arabella. I think of it as very strong and feminine in a good way.
I'm interested so many people have commented that the nn could be Stacie though - do people pronounce it with an acier sound at the end to rhyme with racier? I pronounce it azier to rhyme with crazier and I always assumed that was normal.

angeltop · 14/11/2020 23:06

Love it

Changethetoner · 14/11/2020 23:36

What about Stacey?

Hawkins001 · 15/11/2020 00:49

Its a good name, but also brings to mind that dance tune

SwedishEdith · 15/11/2020 01:23

I knew one, years ago, who was Staysha - better than Stacey.

BigSaltyPeanut · 15/11/2020 01:26

I don't get the stacey connection people are making either. It's like saying "aren't you worried Lucy will get called lose-y!?"
....well no because they're pronounced differently and that's not her name...
Anastasia might get called Ana but Stacey is a reach.

alexdgr8 · 15/11/2020 01:30

@GlitterGlueGun

I don't know why I think that about Anastasia. I suppose it's random, I can think of three, two nuns one v religious.
probably because it comes from the easter acclamation, it means resurrection/ resurrected.

a good name. makes a change from the usual micky-mouse ones on here. taste is returning.
go with it OP.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/11/2020 02:54

For those pp asking why the warnings about Stacy/Stacey - it was always the traditional nickname for Anastasia in English speaking countries and therefore became pretty popular even as a given name in the 70's/80's. I agree now Ana or Anya would be more contemporary (or Nastya if Russian/Eastern European).

PS: I like your username Wink.

Anastasia might get called Ana but Stacey is a reach.

Actually, Stacey is a well recognised shortening for Anastasia.

It's a lovely name, imo.

Staysha (short for the 'Anastaysha' pronunciation that was common in Ireland) is another option when it comes to a nickname.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/11/2020 09:05

It’s lovely. I’m friends with one, who goes by Stas.

Some people will pronounce it ana-STAY-sia, and some ana-STAH-sia.

ProudAuntie76 · 15/11/2020 09:10

Went to school with a very English very working class Anastasia known as Stacey, really stood out in the 80s. Then there was the cartoon which is lovely.

I like it (because I am a devout Catholic maybe although don’t see how you need to be to use it Confused). However my boss is called Anastasia and it’s put me off. She’s quite unsupportive! But I’d have used it otherwise.

It’s no more ott or out there than some of the adored names regularly mentioned on here that imo are far more ridiculous- Ottilie/Ottilia, Clementine/Clemency, Seraphina, Genevieve, Loveday etc! Go for it OP, it’s a nice name.

borntohula · 15/11/2020 09:12

If I ever had another girl, I'd use Anastasia or Anna. Beautiful names.

Hoowhoowho · 15/11/2020 09:14

Love it. I went to school with an Anastasia who went by Zia.

JanewaysBun · 15/11/2020 11:22

I had it on the list for DD ( vetoed tho)
Would have used staci as a nickname as I love that name

The one on vanderpump rules uses stasi as her nn but think that's maybe not the best (!)

I know a couple of EE origin (4 actually!)
